10 Things to Know about the Movie: The Murders at Starved Rock

The Murders at Starved Rock was launched in the spring of 2022 by HBO Max. This movie has pushed out lots of fascinating original content that viewers have always enjoyed watching over the years.

The movie is a true-crime docu-series that has lots of facts and teachings to put across to many people, especially all the armchair detectives out there. It was centered around the 1960 murders of three women at Starved State Park in Oglesby, Illinois.

Frances Murphy (47), Mildred Lindquist (50), and Lillian Oetting (50) who were wives of prominent Chicago businessmen arrived in Illinois for a four-day trip. They checked in to the Starved Rock Lodge, and went out hiking but went missing thereafter. Their bodies bludgeoned using a tree limb were found in a cave of a canyon in the locality.

A man named Chester Weger was arrested, tried, and convicted for the murder of the three women. Many people believe that he was convicted falsely for over fifty years till he was pardoned in 2020. Chester is still determined to clear his name, with the movie, Murders at Starved Rock Lodge talking more about this incident.

David Raccuglia, the filmmaker had to do many assignments to give viewers the best experience of the docuseries. He had to research old case files for about 15 years and started filming them in 2015.

The filming for a very long period of time was also more important for the movie. This helped David gather more and deeper information about the facts as well as he was thorough on everything.

His first or major interest has always been in hairstyling. He is a very successful barber and hairstylist whose work can be appreciated worldwide. David Raccuglia is the founder of the men’s grooming brand known as American Crew.

Even though the case was technically closed years ago, there have been speculations that Chester might be innocent or not. However, this has not paved way for another series of movies that many are eagerly waiting for. With the DNA results test stating that it wasn’t Chester’s blood from the case, the possibility for the second season is low.

A 22-year-old Chester Otto Weger was arrested and tried for the murders of the three renowned women. In this case, there is some controversy as Chester signed a confession to commit the murders.

However, in reality, Chester Otto Weger has always maintained his innocence ever since he was put behind bars for all those years. He revealed that he was assaulted by the police so that he could sign the confession of murdering the three women.

9. The Main Character in this Movie is Still Alive

The Murders at Starved Rock Lodge took place several years ago, in 1960. Viewers of this movie have always expected that those involved died a long time ago but that is not the case.

Chester Otto Weger, the main character of this movie is still alive and well. He is currently 82 years old and paroled from jail after spending 60 years in jail since the incident happened when he was 22 years old.
