1. John Lewis – Politician and Civil Rights Activist

John Lewis passed on in 2020. He was a Civil Rights leader who has greatly contributed to America’s progression. Lewis remains to be one of Atlanta’s most beloved citizens.
In 1963, Lewis was one of the Big Six leaders that organized the march in Washington.
John was elected into the House of Representatives when he was 23. He went ahead to serve for 17 terms.
His mission was to always protect humanity; John’s famous quote was to get in good trouble, necessary trouble.
One of his key roles was in the civil rights movement and its actions to end legalized racial segregation in the United States.
2. Future – Rapper
Born Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Popularly known by his stage name Future, he signed a recording contract with A1 Recordings and Epic Records in 2011.
It was then that he released the albums Pluto (2012) and Honest (2014). The album had the platinum singles “Turn On the Lights”, “Honest”, “Move That Dope”, and “I Won”.
Future has achieved major critical and commercial success with DS2 (2015) and its singles “Fuck Up Some Commas” as well as “Where Ya At”.
Some of his awards include a Grammy Award at the 61st Grammy Awards for Best Rap Performance for the song “King’s Dead” alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and James Blake.
3. Tyler Perry – Actor & Film Producer

Tyler Perry is a renowned film producer and director. He was born in New Orleans but moved to Atlanta in early 1990.
His rise to fame was in the Atlanta theatre market. He quickly became one of the most famous and highest-earning artists in the United States.
Perry was one of the pioneers in the gospel film genre. Furthermore, he has had successful projects such as “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” and “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”.
Tyler was included in Time’s list of the 100 most influential people of 2020. In 2022, Perry was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame.
4. Ryan Seacrest – Radio Personality
Ryan is an American Idol host and radio personality who was born and raised in Atlanta.
He pursued a journalism degree at the University of Georgia after High School. Later Ryan moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in broadcasting.
In 2002, he was offered a position as co-host of a new Fox reality television series American Idol with comedian Brian Dunkleman. He hosted the show solo the following year.
Seacrest received Emmy Award nominations for American Idol from 2004 to 2013. He won his first Emmy Award for producing Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution in 2010.
He has produced several hit reality shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
5. Sanjay Gupta – Neurosurgeon

Another famous person from Atlanta is Sanjay Gupta. He is the chief medical correspondent for CNN.
Additionally, Sanjay is the associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital and associate professor of neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine.
Sanjay appeared more frequently on TV reporting from the frontlines of the pandemic from 2020.
This was especially during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. Other than that, he also hosted the CNN show Sanjay Gupta MD for which he has won multiple Emmy Awards.
Gupta has also published a column in Time magazine and written four books: Chasing Life, Cheating Death, Monday Mornings: A Novel, and Keep Sharp (Jan 2021).

Gladys Maria Knight nicknamed the ‘Empress of Soul’ is a seven-time Grammy Award-winner.

McCord became famous in 2007 as the scheming Eden Lord on the FX television series Nip/Tuck.
She was also rose to prominence from the telenovela American Heiress as the pampered Loren Wakefield.

8. Sally Yates – Lawyer
Sally served as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia from 2010 to 2015.
At the end of her tenure, Sally was appointed United States Deputy Attorney General by President Barack Obama.
After the inauguration of President Donald Trump, Attorney General Loretta Lynch left on January 20 2017, upon which Yates served as Acting Attorney General for 10 days.
She was fired by Trump for insubordination in instructing the Justice Department not to make legal arguments defending Executive Order 13769.
After her sacking, Yates returned to private practice. The Biden administration considered her for the Attorney General position.
9. Chloe Grace Moretz – Actress

Chloe started acting as a child after getting early roles in the supernatural horror film The Amityville Horror (2005). Other shows were the drama series Desperate Housewives (2006–07).
