10 Best Things to do in Times Square, New York
The beating heart of the big apple, a visit to Times Square lives on the bucket lists of travel enthusiasts around the world. Very often when people finally make it to the infamous square, the sensory overload becomes extreme and choosing what to do is not all that easy.
Top 10 Facts About Times Square
Having spent my fair share of good times in the square, I’ve put together a little list of the best things to do:
1. Visit Madame Tussauds Times Square, New York
A cliche recommendation if there ever was one, but there’s just something so unmissable about this unique museum experience and good reason why people come from all over the world just to experience it.
If you aren’t already familiar, Madame Tussauds is the wax museum, where celebrities, royals, sports stars, models and historical figures are all waiting to pose for selfies with you.

2. Watch Broadway in Times Square, New York
It doesn’t matter what you watch: Cats, Chicago, The Book of Mormon, Phantom, Wicked… I can go on.
Watching Broadway is 50% about the production, and 50% about the experience of watching Broadway. It’s something you’ll never forget, despite the seating being surprisingly cramped, and the box office process being incredibly bureaucratic. Make it happen — there’s really nothing quite like it.

3. People Watch in Times Square, New York
I find that in the absolute mayhem and chaos that is Times Square, it’s people watching that actually brings me the most amount of calm, and oh, is there a lot to see.
The mix of souls that come together in this mess of a square is like nothing you’ll find on any other continent. It’s a melting pot like never before, and a feast for the eyes of those who enjoy a good stare.
4. Induce a Sugar Rush in Times Square, New York
The candy and chocolate scene in America is reason enough to visit, and Times Square is home to some of the most outrageous factory shops that the public are free to visit.
Find the Hershey’s or M&Ms stores in the square, and prepare to be completely blown away. The Jelly Belly factory is also a must-visit if you grew up loving different flavored beans.
5. Watch Great Comedy in Times Square, New York
Broadway isn’t the only live entertainment going on in this famous hub; this is also where comedians from around the world come to make or break it.
The LoL Times Square Comedy Club is easy enough to find whilst in the square, though getting inside is never a sure thing. Always buy tickets in advance if you can, and if there is a long line outside of the box office, whip out your phone and purchase on the spot.
6. Be Part of the Daily Show in Times Square, New York
A few years back South African comedian, Trevor Noah, famously took over the job of hosting The Daily Show; a daily talk series filmed in Times Square featuring sports stars, celebrities, politicians and everything in between.
Joining the audience is free, but you’ll need to queue early enough to be part of the one’s let in. See the shows website for more information on how not to miss out.
7. Get to the Top of the Rock in Times Square, New York
Also known as the top of the Rockefeller Center, this is the most astounding view over New York City, with 360 degree uninterrupted panoramic views, and your head in the clouds for the majority of it (literally).
Situated at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, near Times Square, this attraction is not free to enjoy and tickets can be bought in the Rockefeller lobby down below.
8. Eat from Food Trucks in Times Square, New York
Eating from food trucks is one of my favorite American pastimes, and Times Square has a bunch to offer that are worth a try. My personal favorite are the taco trucks (you can’t go wrong — ever), but you’ll also find a ton of bright green trucks serving up tasty falafel and kebab.
9. Re-Live Your Childhood in Times Square, New York
What would Times Square be without a little Disney? The Disney Store is another hard to miss attraction in the famous square, and no matter your age there is magic to be found.
Come and meet all of the characters who made your childhood nothing short of nostalgic, and take home souvenirs that you can only find in the USA or respective Disneylands around the world.
10. Don’t Buy Souvenirs in Times Square, New York
A strage addition to a ‘best things to do’ list, but rest assured that not shopping for souvenirs while in Times Square is one of the best things you can do!
This is not the time nor the place, despite how many overflowing souvenir shops would have you feel otherwise. In Times Square, you’re going to pay four times more for the same souvenirs that you would in neighboring boroughs, simply because it’s TIMES SQUARE.
Hold off, and wait until you’re strolling neighborhoods like Brooklyn, Greenwich Village or Downtown. You’ll save a bunch, and I can assure you they all have exactly the same objects.
