Naomie Melanie Harris is an English actress who has gradually become successful in her career. She was born on the 6th of September 1976, in Islington, London. She was the descendant of Lisselle Kayla, a Jamaican migrant. Her father, Brian Clarke was a migrant to London from Trinidad, and he was a fashion designer. However, Naomie had no relationship with her father since her parents separated just before she was born.
She had an interest in acting at a very young age and this saw her attend the prestigious Anna Scher Theatre School. She studied Social and Political Sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge University. After her graduation, she moved to train at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Generally, from her childhood, she was more intrigued by acting and she did it as a hobby. She has also won several awards as a result of her tremendous work in the industry.

1. Harris was Raised by her Mother
Harris was born and raised in Islington, London. She was born to Lisselle Kayla, a Jamaican migrant, and his father Brian Clarke a migrant from Trinidad. However, the relationship between her parent went south and they separated before she was born. As a result, she grew up separated from her father and she had no relationship with him. This saw her raised by her mother alone where she grew up in a council flat in Finsbury Park. However, her mother was later remarried and she had two children. Her stepfather was a chef in France and she was twenty years older than her brothers.
2. She was diagnosed with Several Complications as a Teenager
Naomie Melanie Harris had a difficult teenage as she found herself diagnosed with several conditions a teen. She developed a spinal fusion which was necessitated by a progressive condition of Scoliosis. She was diagnosed with Scoliosis at the age of eleven. She took a month to recover from the Spinal fusion which forced her to learn how to walk again. She would also later be diagnosed with adenomyosis which she later recovered from.
3. She was introduced to Acting by her Mother at a Young Age
Naomie Melanie Harris began acting at a very young age. She was introduced to acting by her mother, Lisselle Kayla who was a scriptwriter. At the age of eleven, she was featured in various television series.
In 1987 she was featured in Simon and the Witch and The Tomorrow People in 1992. Noticing her interest in acting, her mother took her to Anna Scher Theatre School where she got more exposed to and involved in acting. She later received more training from Bristol Old VC Theatre School.

Naomie Melanie Harris made her first debut in the film Crust as a receptionist in 2001. This was a comedy, drama movie that was Directed by Mark Locke. After the movie she featured in Danny Boyle’s post-apocalyptic which was called 28 days later. Since her debut, she has been featured in other several television shows and movies.

Harris became very popular as an actress and she co-starred in James Bond’s film in 2012 where she was playing as Miss Moneypenny. In the James Bond series, she was the first black actress to play Miss Moneypenny. This was in “Skyfall” 2012 where she significantly expanded from her role in secretarial roots. This role also made her very popular in the film industry and she found herself nominated for other roles in other films. However, in 2015 she featured in the James Bond film, Spectra where she replayed her role of Moneypenny.
7. She is known to American Audiences for her Role as Tia Dalma
In 2006, Naomie Melanie Harris played the role of Tia Dalma in pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and in the following year, she played Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. Her outstanding performance saw her replace Lupita Nyong’o in Southpaw in the role of Angela Rivera in 2015. This was after the famous actor, Lupita Nyong’o backed out of the acting project.
8. She was Appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth 11
In the 2017 New Year’s Honours, of Queen Elizabeth, she appointed Naomie Melanie Harris Officer of the Order of the British Empire. This was in the New Year’s Honours for her outstanding service to drama. Her influence in the art industry was spreading fast to all corners of the world and she made a name for herself.
