Top 10 Facts About Lviv Town Hall

Lviv city, in Ukraine, is the home of many town halls since 1357. This Town hall which includes the Lviv Town Hall has been regarded as the landmark of the community.

The Lviv Town Hall modern building is currently located in Market Square in Ukraine.

The hall is the residence of the Lviv City council. In the UNESCO world heritage, it is listed as one of the Historic City Center Ensembles.

1. The Modern City Hall Tower was Laid in 1827

A new tower was laid in 1827. The construction of this tower began between  1830 and 1835.

The Tower was built in a Viennese Classical style. The designers of the city hall project were architects: Alois Wondraszka, Jerzy Glogowski, Joseph Markl and Franz Trescher.

 A four-story building hall was built with a patio and features a town hall clock tower. During the revolutionary events in 1848, the Lviv city centre with the original clock tower collapsed and was repaired in  1851.

In  1939, the building became the Lviv city hall council house. The Town Hall and its tower were opened for entrance In  2000,

2. The First Town Hall was Built of Wood

The first town hall which appeared after the city government rights, the Magdeburg rights, in 1357 was initially built of wood but it later burned down in 1381.

After the accident, reconstruction of a stone hall started. The oldest part of the building is the middle part which dates from the 14th century. The western part of the hall was Constructed between the years of1491鈥�1504.

3. The Cornerstone of the City Hall was Laid in 1827

After the project of constructing the city hall was approved, the construction works started where The cornerstone was laid on 21 October 1827.

The construction of this stone hall lasted for eight years. This was where the main fa莽ade of the southern section was initially built. 

Later, the northern section was started which led to the dismantling of the “mid-Rynok” houses. Some of those houses existed from 1830 until the new city hall front part was Constructed.

4. Trumpet Sounds are Performed Every weekend

 One of the interesting fact about the city hall is that every day during the weekdays at noon, and also at six o鈥檆lock in the evening the trumpet sounds is performed. It is performed by one trumpet player.

 On weekends, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., a fanfare sounds every hour. Moreover, two trumpeters are already performing. The town hall is always open on Monday to Thursday from 09:00 until 18:00, and on Friday from 09:00a.m until 5:00 p.m.

5. The Town Hall has a Web Camera

 The Town Hall is crowned with a clock tower which is made in the style of Viennese classicism.

The webcam which is located at that tower, let’s the people see the beautiful city of Lviv, where the live stream comes from. The city hall also has an observation platform. The height of the tower is 65 meters

6. The Town Hall Gives a 360-degree view Over the Town

The Town Hall rooftop allows the visitors to see the city from a 360掳 angle. During the view, one gets to see inside the old Austrian buildings, this is a good experience since these buildings are best seen when on the top of the hall.

While still on top of the tower, the visitors are can see some of the ruined buildings from world war 2. These buildings are not yet restored because of various reasons.

7. Lviv Town Hall Hosted a Meeting for American Citizens

The American service unit meeting was held at the Lviv city hall for all the united state citizens living in Ukraine. The turnout of the people at the meeting was excellent,

Furthermore, positive feedback was received from those who attended. During the meeting, the Embassy officials said,  鈥渨e understand that it is not easy for everyone to travel to Kyiv, so we decided would like to host a meeting in your region to allow you to meet with fellow Americans and Embassy staff. 鈥�

9. The City Hall Features a Town Clock

The four-story City Hall building features the town hall clock tower. But in 1848, during the events of the revolutionary, the Lviv city centre and the original clock tower collapsed but it was repaired in 1851.

10. The Building has Four Stories

The Lviv city hall building has four stories. The mansard premises are arranged under the roof.

The structure of the building is in form of a rectangle, and the perimeter of the building is 78×58 m. The building has four symmetrical fa莽ades which have d茅cors in the Neo-Classicist style.
