The oldest known monument in Istanbul, called the Column of the Goths, is located in the park. Erected in the 3rd Century CE this solitary marble column is one of the most mysterious sights you can come across in Istanbul.

The column is an 18 meters high free-standing marble column located on the east of Gulhane Park. Most likely, the column was erected to honour the victories of either Claudius II Gothicus or Constantine the Great, both of whom are noted for achieving victories over the Goths.

According to Byzantine historian Nicephorus Gregoras, the column was once surmounted by a statue of Byzas the Megarian, the semi-legendary founder of Byzantium.

8. It hosts a Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam

The Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam is located on the park’s western side, in the ancient stables of Topkapi Palace. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated it in May 2008.

The museum houses 140 replicas of inventions from the eighth to sixteenth centuries, including those in astronomy, geography, chemistry, surveying, optics, medicine, architecture, physics, and warfare.

The Museum is an astonishing and fantastic museum that displays replicas of some of Islamic Civilization’s inventions made between the 9th and 16th centuries.

The museum is the only one in the world where visitors may see the progress of several scientific areas in Islamic civilization. The museum is situated in the former Imperial Stables building in Gulhane Park, on the skirts of the Topkapi Palace Museum.

It is set on a 3,500-square meters exhibition area and showcases a total of 570 samples of tools and devices, as well as model collections. With this speciality, it is the first museum in Turkey, and second in the world after the one in Frankfurt.

The Ahmet Hamdi Tanpnar Literature Museum Library is a Turkish literature museum and archive named after the Turkish author and essayist Ahmet Hamdi Tanpnar (1901–1962).

The museum, which is located in Istanbul, Turkey, was founded by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and opened on November 12, 2011.

The museum is housed in the two-storey Procession Kiosk, a 19th-century historic edifice on the outer walls of Topkapi Palace’s Gulhane Park.

It was used by the Ottoman sultans to accept the salute of parading janissary soldiers as well as a pleasant location.
