During the “13th General conference of the organization of Islamic capitals and cities held in Mecca,” Prince MonsourMite’b Bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi Arabian minister of municipal and rural affairs, presented the first prize to Dr Sirri Aydogan, vice president of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.

As a non-profit international non-governmental organization connected to the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Organization of Islamic Capitals and Cities was established in 1980. (OIC). The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality joined OICC on February 11th, 2008.
