Shinzo Abe was a Japanese prime minister, who held office from 26th September 2006 to 2007. He was later re-elected and led from 26th December 2012 to 16th September 2020. This made him the longest-serving prime minister in Japanese history. In the same period, Shinzo was the president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
 
From 2005 to 2006, Shizo Abe was Chief Cabinet Secretary under the regime of Junichiro Koizumi. He became the opposition leader sometime in 2012.

Abe was born on 21st September 1954 in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. He was the son of celebrated Japanese Politician, Shintaro Abe. Shinzo Abe’s father (Shintaro) was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Shinzo was the grandson of Nobuseke Kishi, a Japanese prime minister.

2. Shinzo Abe attended the University of Southern California

 
Shinzo joined the Seikei Junior elementary school in Tokyo, Japan. It is one of the best elementary schools in Japan up to date. He later joined Seikei Senior school.
 
Abe attended the great Seikei University and studied Public Administration. He graduated in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in political science, making a significant milestone in his career.
 
After graduation, Shinzo moved to the United States of America and joined the University of Southern California to further his studies in Public Policy. It took Abe three semesters to complete his studies in the School of Policy, Planning, and development.

Immediately after completing his university studies, Shinzo tried his luck in the government by working in several governmental posts. Some of the positions that Abe held was executive assistant to the foreign affairs minister.
 
He as well worked as a private secretary to two different organizations. Shinzo became the secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP). He was also a private secretary to the LDP General Council chairperson.

In 1987, Shinzo Abe married Akie Matsuzaki, a Japanese celebrity and socialite. Akie was an ex-radio Disk Jockie and the daughter of Morinaga, the CEO of a Japanese chocolate production company at the time.
 
Abe’s wife is vocal in raising her opinion. Even when her husband was alive, she was never shy about raising ideas that differed from her husband’s. This earned her the nickname “domestic opposition party.”
 
Akie is also famous for launching an organic Izakaya (Japanese bar) in Tokyo’s Kanda neighborhood. She is not part of the organization’s administration yet she is the founder because her mother wished it so. Abe and his wife Akie never had any children following their medical and health conditions.

5. Shinzo Abe joined politics in 1993

 
Abe began his political career in 1993. This was after his election to Japan’s House of Representatives. He became the Committee Director on Health and Welfare in 1999. In the same year, Abe rose to the position of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Director of the Social Affairs Division.
 
From 2000-2006 Shinzo became the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Abe Shinzo became the Japanese Prime Minister for his first term in 2006. He held the position for a long cumulated time with resignations in between.

6. Abe Shinzo was a controversial politician

 
Abe was one of the most controversial politicians in Japan. Critics argued that he played the role of an extreme nationalist during world war 11. The effect was that the excellent relationship between South Korea and China almost deteriorated during his premiership.

On 26th September 2006, Shinzo became the prime minister of Japan. He resigned on 12th September 2007. He secured re-election and became the Japanese prime minister from 26th December 2012 up to 28th august 2020.

8. Abe had many awards and achievements

 
Shinzo won various awards, including two domestic honors and 16 foreign honors. He also won global prizes, such as the Herman Khan Award in September 2013 in the United States of America.
 
Shinzo graduated with four honorary doctorates from the Rangsit University in Thailand in 2013. Jawaharlal Nehru University in India, 2015. Turkmenistan State University in India, 2015. The International Islamic University Malaysia.
 
Abe’s second time clinching the office of prime minister was a triumph. He took over office starting 26th December 2012. 

9. Shinzo Abe was assassinated

 
Shinzo was shot while delivering a speech at Yamato-Saidaiji station in Nara. The speech was in support of his fellow Liberal Democratic Party member Kei Sato.
 
His attacker approached him from behind and used a homemade weapon to fulfill his mission. Immediately after the incident, Shinzo went to Nara Medical University Hospital. 

10. Shinzo Abe died in July 2022

 
After his assassination, Abe succumbed to his injuries and passed away on 8th July 2022. Efforts to save his life by the medical experts failed. Shinzo Abe’s suspected killer was 41 years old, Tetsuya Yamagami. Tetsuya is a former Japan Maritime Self Defense Force member.
 
Shinzo is a legend and his influence on Japanese politics is remarkable. He was nicknamed “shadow shogun”. His good deeds established his fame as a politician throughout his service to the people of Japan. His leadership was celebrated within and out of Japan. He was a world leader.
