Koji Tamaki is a Japanese singer, songwriter, and actor. He is famously associated with the rock band Anzen Chitai as a front man, the band debuted in 1982.

He began his career as a solo artist in 1993, and he since experienced much critical acclaim.

He is regarded as one of the best Japanese vocalists, in 2014 he was ranked first by a panel of 200 experts for having the best singing voice in japan.

In 2021 K艒ji was voted the greatest active male Japanese singer and was termed a living national treasure of music.

1. He has acted in several movies

Tamaki wasn鈥檛 just a songwriter and a singer but also a talented actor, he was featured in seven films and numerous television dramas.

He started his acting career for the first time in the movie “Prussian Blue no Shozo”, the 1986 motion picture he starred.

He also featured in the 1995 movie the last train, a film about a Japanese soldier and Australian soldier who fought in world war two.

Other movies he has starred in include, the last bullet and many happy returns.

 2. He was the vocalist of the rock band Anzen Chitai

Koji Tamaki was a vocalist of the rock band Anzen Chitai famed in 1973 by five in Asahikawa, Hokkaido japan.

The band debuted in 1982 in Tokyo, Japan, and became one of japans most successful rock bands in the 1980s.

The original members include K艒ji Tamaki who was the vocalist, guitarist Yutaka Takezawa and guitarist/keyboardist Toshiya Takezawa, who is also Yutaka’s brother. 

The rock band began work as a backup band for singer-songwriter Yosui Inoue and released their single debut Moegi Iro no snap, under kitty records.

Koji Tamaki remained an active solo performer and television actor with Wataru Yahagi, performing in both his solo albums and concerts.

On April 28, 2008, the fan club of Koji was heartbroken when he announced his retirement from music and the closing of the official Koji Tamaki and Anzai Chitai fan club, pointing to the reason being an illness that required long-term care.

3. He has had a long solo singing career

In 1987, Tamaki released the 1^st single 鈥淎ll I Do鈥�, and continued his solo career after the band Anzen Chitai went into hiatus.

In the duration of his solo career, he has released 23 singles and over a dozen studio albums.

His famous song 鈥淒en EN鈥�,  released as a single in 1996 became a massive hit reaching the number two on the Japanese Oricon charts and selling more than 900,000 copies.

4. He has gotten divorced four times

The charismatic actor and singer were married four times and divorced as much. It was after his first marriage failed that he ended up marrying his second wife Hiroko Yakushimaru, a Japanese actress and singer, they were married for seven years and five months before parting ways in 1998.

After splitting with his second wife he married a year later to Sotoko Ando, a pianist in his touring band.

They married on Wednesday, December 1st, 1999. K艒ji Tamaki was 41 years old. They finished their 8 years of marriage in 2007. He also had an affair with actress Mariko Ishihara between 1983 and 1986.

5. He rekindled his love with his secret lover after many years

When Tamaki announced retirement due to health issues in 2008, his former secret lover Ishihara contacted him and the two began dating again after almost twenty-three years down the line.

In February 2009 they submitted their application for marriage in Tokyo, sadly their application wasn鈥檛 approved and they split up with each again.

Their relationship first came to light in 1985, even though Tamaki was already married, their relationship came to an end after four years.

Ishihara revealed in her 2006 autobiography how she suffered domestic violence at the hands of Tamaki.

6. He has had conflicts with his fans

In his concert tours, Tamaki displayed several times absurd scenes that made his fans disappointed in him.

 It鈥檚 said that he once fell asleep in one of the concerts while performing at the Osaka station and left the stage because of physical discomfort.

His fans were shocked and angry at the rude behavior displayed by their favorite singer and more than 2000 audience hissed at him.

7. He has been accused of domestic violence in his marriages

Koji experienced four failed marriages in the course of his life. His emotional life has been in the limelight during his long career.

His ex-wife Ishihara published an autobiography that revealed his habit of abusing people. His other ex-wife, Noriko has also suffered in his hands.

 it is said he used her as an outlet for his uncontrolled anger and inflicted several injuries on her. According to reports from Noriko鈥檚 friends, she suffered a lot in her marriage with Tamaki.

8. His music has had high regard across many countries

Tamaki鈥檚 music reached far and wide and his songs were very popular. His songs covered accounted for half of the Hong Kong music scene, especially his song Wine red wine heart.

9. He had temporarily retired from the music industry

The popular musician and actor announced his retirement from music as well as the closing of the official K艒ji Tamaki and Anzen chital fan club star due to an illness he said required long-term treatment.

During the second half of 2009, the band regrouped and resumed performing and composing songs switching back to universal music japan.
