Kagawa was born in Kobe where he started playing at age of five. He later got an opportunity to join the Marino football club from 1994-1999. In the year 1999 -2001, he played for Kobe NK Football Club and within the same year joined FC Miyagi Barcelona until 2005.

Shinji had great talent and it was Cerezo Osaka who took notice of his abilities and signed him at age of 17. This was Kagawa’s first contract as a professional football player.
 
He was the first in Japan to sign in a professional contract before graduating from high school. This gained him a regular position. In 2009 he become the top scorer on the team leading to the beginning of his popularity.

2010 was the year when Kagawa made his debut in Europe. He had signed a 350000-pound contract with Borussia Dortmund. This transfer was modest due to the contract release clause in Kagawa’s contract in Cerezo. It allowed him to leave the club if he had an opportunity to play in Europe. 

4. August 23 was his first day in Bundesliga

 
Kagawa Shinji made his first appearance in Bundesliga playing for Dortmund on August 23, 2010. He scored several competitive goals for his club. Kagawa also claimed a pre-match that led him to score two goals.

Kagawa joined Manchester United Football Club on June 5, 2012. He was the first Japanese player to join the club. His transfer was completed on June 22 and he received t-shirt number 26.
 
He made his premier league appearance on 20 August 2012. Kagawa had his first chance to play in the champion league against Galatasaray on September 19th, 2012.
 
He injured his knee during the champion league tournament which left him sidelined for two months. He later returned from injury in January 2013. In March 2013 he scored his first hat trick for Manchester United FC. This made him the first Asian to ever score a hat trick in the premier league.
 
He played a title-winning match against Aston Villa in which Manchester United FC won. He became the first Japanese player to win a premier league title. He also received a premier league medal and was honored as man of the match. 

8. He didn’t want to part with his couch Alex Ferguson

 
Kagawa had a close connection with Alex Ferguson. The retirement of coach Alex affected him. It was Ferguson who brought Kagawa to Manchester United FC. He only worked with Alex Ferguson for a year and he wished he was able to work with him more. This led him to return to Dortmund after only two years at Manchester United FC.

Kagawa was the senior international player in 2008. He won over 90 cops and scored over 30 goals. In 2012 Kagawa was the Asian football confederation international player of the year. He also holds the records for the most appearance and goals by a Japanese player in a UEFA club competition.

In August 2019 he completely moved to real Zaragoza of Spain for a two-year contract. He later joined a Greece club for a half-year contract. Then he finally moved to the Belgian club in 2022.
