Top 10 Amazing Facts about Tokyo Disneyland
Disneyland is a world where people of all generations and backgrounds can share laughter, surprises, discoveries, and fun.
Walt Disney once said of the original theme park in California, “I think what I want Disneyland to be most of all is a happy place – a place where adults and children can experience together some of the wonders of life, of adventure, and feel better because of it.”
These words are also the basis for Tokyo Disneyland.
Tokyo Disneyland is a 115-acre theme park at the Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, near Tokyo.
Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney Park outside the United States and it opened on April 15, 1983.
Disneyland and DisneySea are the two main components of Tokyo Disneyland.
Modelled after Disneyland in California and the Magic Kingdom in Florida, Tokyo Disneyland is made up of seven themed lands and features seasonal decorations and parades.
The happiest place on earth combined with the Japanese attention to detail makes Tokyo Disneyland an extra wonderful place to visit that comes with its fair share of unique details.
Here are 10 amazing facts about Tokyo Disneyland.
1. Tokyo Disneyland is not in Tokyo

The resort is actually located in the city of Urayasu, which is part of the Chiba prefecture east of Tokyo.
A ride from Tokyo Station to Maihama Station (which stands right outside the gates of the parks) is 15 to 20 minutes on the JR Keiyo or Musashino Line.
Tokyo DisneySea is the only one of its kind in the world, there are rides and attractions in both theme parks that you won’t be able to find elsewhere.
Examples include Pooh’s Hunny Hunt and Monsters, Inc. Ride and Go Seek in Tokyo Disneyland, as well as Tokyo DisneySea’s Nemo & Friends SeaRider and Jules Verne-inspired rides Journey to the Centre of the Earth and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
2. At Tokyo Disneyland, Popcorn is big Business

There is a diversity of popcorn stations encompassing both parks with all sorts of absurd (and normal) flavours like soy sauce, strawberry, chocolate, and honey that vary seasonally.
Themed plastic popcorn buckets are site-specific. The buckets are refilled at any of the stations for a reduced price.
Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea are known for their unique popcorn flavours, as well as collectable popcorn buckets.
Popcorn is one of the most popular snacks at Tokyo Disney Resort. This theme park staple has taken on a life of its own here at the Parks.
While you’ll find classic flavours such as salt and caramel, you’ll quickly find that exotic flavours are just as popular.
Much like the merchandise at the Resort, the popcorn flavours and buckets are constantly changing.
It’s a unique part of the Tokyo Disney adventure.
3. Tokyo Disneyland is Divided into Seven Theme Parks

Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu opened in 1983 on a huge tract of land on Tokyo Bay.
Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida inspired Tokyo Disneyland.
It features seven themed areas: World Bazaar, Tomorrowland, Toontown, Fantasyland, Critter Country, Westernland and Adventureland, offering 39 thrilling attractions and rides.
Look out for the big Beauty and the Beast area in Fantasyland, which opened in 2020 and is exclusive to Tokyo Disneyland.

A walk through the Mediterranean Harbor will remind you of Italy with its Venetian Gondola rides and colourful houses, while the Arabian Coast will transport you to the world of Aladdin.
There’s even the Mermaid Lagoon, home of King Triton and other characters of The Little Mermaid.
And in 2023, the park is set for its biggest expansion ever, with a new area dedicated to Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan.

It’s the first thing you see when you walk into the park: the massive glass roof of the World Bazaar, framing the spires of Cinderella Castle in the distance.
This magnificent entryway to the park reminiscent of Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland.
It provides an unforgettable welcome to guests before they begin a magical day at the park.
An intricately wrought, weather-proof glass roof protects the World Bazaar from Japan’s unpredictable weather.
As part of the park’s 35th-anniversary celebration, the World Bazaar now features special effects lighting, banners and limited-time overlays on select stores, so that the anniversary celebration begins as soon as guests enter the park!
6. Tokyo Disneyland’s Exclusive “Hunny” of a Unique Attraction

Exclusive to Tokyo Disneyland, Pooh’s Hunny Hunt invites guests to board Hunny pots and follow Pooh through the Hundred Acre Wood as he hunts for his favourite sweet snack —honey!
Using a trackless ride system and fanciful show sets, the attraction re-creates beloved moments from the Pooh stories along with original scenes designed for the attraction.
Guests find themselves spinning through a blustery day, boogie-ing with Heffalumps and Woozles, and even bouncing along with Tigger!

A super-secret luxury casino exists somewhere on the premises.
The Japanese urban legend states that, somewhere within Tokyo Disneyland, there’s a huge luxury casino open only to the rich and famous.
While the casino bit is, in fact, merely legend as far as we can tell, “Club 33,” the ultra-exclusive club Walt Disney himself built in order to entertain private guests and park sponsors – and forms the basis of the Japanese casino myth – actually does exist.
It’s supposedly the only place in the entire park where patrons can buy alcoholic beverages.
You will know if someone is walking haywire and what has caused it. Make them your pal, you might need them.
Then tag along behind them for a few minutes and maybe you’ll find the trick bookcase to enter.
Another story states that the park has a hidden luxury casino exclusive for some.
8. Urban Legend: If you find Golden Mickey, you’ll get a prize

Legend has it there are three Golden Mickeys hidden throughout the park at least one of them apparently located in an area inaccessible to the public.
If you find one and tell a nearby staff member, they’ll give you a prize and tell you to keep the idol’s location to yourself.
While it’s possible there are Golden Mickeys located in the park, we can’t imagine you’d actually get a prize for finding one.
Staff – called “Cast Members” – number in the thousands (possibly tens of thousands) and like all conspiracies, it would be almost impossible to keep a lid on this one with that many people in the know.
9. Tokyo Disneyland has Loads of Transportation Options

The park really is one of the few places in Japan where you can legitimately feel like a five-year-old again.
The park is clean and ride malfunctions are rare.
It’s also a great place to take a date – just so long as you remember to kiss during the fireworks.
