Best Students Bars in Tokyo

As evening comes and darkness settles in, the once busy Tokyo changes to a carefree and relaxed atmosphere. It is the time to let loose and relax after a long day of toil and hard work. Tokyo nightlife is a whole scenery.

Tokyo has over 100 campuses and colleges that may be wild and rendezvous. Looking for a nice bar to unwind at pocket-friendly pockets? Look no further. A night out after a long day in school is a brilliant way to end the day in Tokyo. You will get pumped up with the adrenaline of good music, booze, food, and friends. One word for this, perfect!

While Tokyo might be a relatively expensive city, food and drinks can be cheap if you know where to look. We are here to point you in the direction of fun, pocket-friendly, and awesome places to hang out in Tokyo. Let us look at the best student bars in Tokyo.

1. Aoyama Tunnel

Aoyama Tunnel is a hidden gem tucked under Bar Oath in Shibuya. Similar to its upstairs neighbor, the Tunnel is all about late-night partying but with a more house and disco music focus. This is a party! Entry here is generally free no matter the night of the week.

However, there may be a drink requirement, but that’s why you’re there. The super chill staff will keep you running with their carefully crafted, yet affordable cocktails well into the sunrise.

2. Bar Oath

Bar Oath is always a safe bet. It is a bar where you are guaranteed a fun night out. This bar is hidden in the Shibuya mainstay. It has been supplying regulars with incredible techno, dance, house music, and cheap drinks for a while now.

Everything about this bar screams a nice deal for students.  Local and international DJs frequent the club. It’s lit. Be warned usually, there’s a 1,000 yen (US$9) cover charge, but that comes with a free drink ticket so it’s worth it.

3. Dragon Men

Dragon Men is located in Shinjuku’s gay district of Nichome. It is a packed-up nightclub and one of the area’s most popular hangouts. Dragon Men stands out for its cheap drinks and no-fuss party atmosphere, it attracts a wide range of customers.

If you’re visiting during the week, the club cuts 200 yen off all drinks from 6 pm until 8 pm Monday to Thursday. On Sunday, they also host the dangerous all-you-can-drink special for 1,000 yen (US$9), so it’s worth checking out!

4. Sound Museum Vision

Sound Museum Vision is a solid choice for clubbing all night. However, clubbing all night is always a pretty pricey affair, no matter how budget-savvy you’re trying to be. Going out can get a little steep, especially when nightclub cover charges often sit between the 2,500 yen (US$23) to 4,000 yen (US$36) mark.

That said, Vision is a hot tip when it comes to serious clubbing, because not only is the music consistently good, but they have a beer in vending machines. If the lines at the bars are too long, just feed 700 yen (US$6.25) in one of these bad boys, and you’re good to go. It is located in Shibuya.

5. House Party at Dom

House Party at Dom is more of a regular party than a nightclub. House Party at the Dom music studio in Koenji has amassed a pretty big and loyal following in the past few years. Here you can catch regular DJs spinning an eclectic mix of tunes as well as live bands. Sing to your favorite tunes as you dance.

It’s BYO-alcohol, so all night is happy hour! Entry is 1,000-2,000 yen (US$9-18), but once you get there you’ll agree that it’s still a pretty incredible value for a long night of partying.

6. Ginza 300 Bar

Though it’s situated in the typically high-end suburb of Ginza, 300 Bar is one of the cheapest bars you’ll find in the whole city. It is just the place you are looking for. Here at 300, all drinks, cocktails, and food cost an incredible 300 yen (US$3), and with no cover charge, it’s arguably the cheapest night out in Tokyo.

The way it works is you buy drink tickets and exchange them for anything on the menu, meaning that it’s less likely for you to lose your wallet or drop all your cash after you’ve had a few.

7. Albatros

Albatros is one of the most popular watering holes and best bars in Tokyo. It has become one of the most popular places for a night out. Located close to Shinjuku station, the three-story bar offers a large selection of alcohol, including sake, wine, and cocktails.

The crowd is a mix between students, ex-pats, artists, and professionals. The bar doubles as an art gallery, allowing artists to rent spaces on the wall to show off their work. It is a wonderful place to enjoy a drink and some art.

8. Hub

The most popular chain of English pubs in Japan (more than 52 locations!). Relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. The HUBs in Shibuya/Roppongi/Shinjuku are the most famous branches.

What makes them attractive are the value-for-money drinks and food. They tend to be busy on the weekends from 8 PM to 2 AM. Perfect for meeting people over a fresh pint of beer and some chicken wings. The crowd is a fair mix of young 20–30 years old foreigners (including English teachers) and Japanese.

9. Beat Cafe

Beat Cafe is the place to go for our laid-back friends. It is a well-worn dive bar with reasonably-priced drinks, a love for indie rock, and extended opening hours.

If you’re looking for somewhere chill to start your night, or a place to wind down after visiting one of Shibuya’s larger clubs, Beat Cafe is always there and the crowd is always friendly. The cover charge at Beat Cafe is free and the drinks cost around 600-700 yen.

10. New Sazae

This secretive disco bar is located on the second floor of a nondescript building in Shinjuku Ni-chome. It is the oldest in the area having opened back in 1966. Here it’s all about disco, dancing, and making new friends from all walks of life.
