Living in Rome has been frequently referred to asÌýla dolce vita. And what is la dolce vita without some real dolcetti? For those visiting Rome, I will recommend a fewÌý iconic dolce/pastry shops where you can savor some of the Eternal City’s most remarkable sugar pleasures.
So if you enjoy sweets, here is where you should go:
Caffè Sant’Eustachio
Founded in 1938, this coffee shop is one of the most famous pastry shops of Rome, and is located just a few meters away from the Pantheon. The cafeteria hasÌý proudly preserved its historical feel through the years thanks to the antique furniture that it boasts. Most of the setting is the same like it was ‘back in the days’ . In fact, the wood-fueled coffee-roaster is one of the very few new additions to the coffee shop.
The two owners, brothers Ramondo and Riccardo Ricci,Ìý have started the tradition in 1999, serving aromatic, traditional coffee that is frequently imported from organic growers.
The best part of your coffee experience here comes when you choose to combine your espresso or latte cup with traditional Roman pastries.Ìý Your choice of sweets is tremendous – from fruity tarts to Sicilian cannoli and eclairs that are rich in chocolate and caramel. The creatively decorated sweets are all displayed for your viewing at the window.
You can order coffee with a baked dolce at the bar, or just sit at a table in the open air and engage in people-watching. But don’t forget that getting a table out means that you will be charged triple for your order.

Pasticceria Andreotti Roma
If you enjoy masterfully-decorated cakes and tarts, there you go – your option to indulge in sweets is here. At Andreotti, you can choose among a variety of cornetti, buns filled with cream, fruity tarts and chocolate surprises.
The tables at via Ostiense can get busy at daytime but if you are lucky, you can snatch one for your ‘dolci and coffee’ break.

Gelateria Fata Morgana
If you are a fan of gelato, you must consider Gelateria Fatamorgana an option for your dolce spree,Ìý and this famous gelato kingdom is a place where you can enjoy fabulous edible works of art that will appeal for each and every taste. The various flavors owe their uniqueness to the locally-grown herbs, spices and flavors. We recommend that you try a seasonal special, such as ananas e zenzero (pineapple and ginger)
If you prefer creamy chocolate, you can opt for Kentucky (tobacco and dark chocolate flavors masterfully mixed together). We also recommendÌý that youÌý try panacea (ginseng, almond milk, and mint) There are also a few gluten-free gelato options – ask for them when you get a chance!
There is a second location for the bakery in the Prati area near the Vatican museums located at Via Bettolo.
Via di Lago di Lesina 9/11, +39 06 863 91589,
Ristorante Settembrini
Located just a few steps away from five-star chef Luigi Nastri’s famous Ristorante Settembrini, this cafe is a popular hangout spot for business locals and curious tourists that have come to enjoy the rich assortments of coffee drinks, light snacks and delicious pastries throughout the day.
Patrons can choose mingling with the professional crowd at the bar or snatching a table for a quick respite.Ìý Settembrini Caffè serves dolci, pastries, baked goods, wraps, salads, panini and ²õ³Ü±è±è±ôì (fried stuffed rice balls).
Pasta dishes are also in the menu, along with soups, salads and pizza varieties.

Le Levain
This is an authentic French bakery in the heart of Rome, offering freshly-baked French baguettes and croissants, and masterfully frosted cakes and pastries.
Besides sweets, the menu features gourmet sandwiches, fresh salads, focaccia, French cheeses and quiche. Also, the shop’s vibrant setting in the center of the Trastevere district will make visitors happy and content with their choice.
Le Levain’s French chef Giuseppe Solfrizzi provides a wide variety of sweets to guests to choose from and those include Croissants, pain au chocolate and exotic fruity pleasures.

Bar Pasticceria Romoli
This place promotes a cornetto ritual at midnight, and every Saturday morning you can pick a pastarelle from the display for your morning breakfast. Proudly in business since 1952, this cafeteria has established itself as a true Roman favorite.
Also, if you have an occasion to celebrate, choose Nonna’s Cake or an extra-large strawberry cake to place at the table.
When it comes to pastries, we recommend Bombe alla Crema, one of Rome’s most popular dolcetti. Combine it all with a refreshing cup of an Italian cappuchino, or if you prefer stronger flavors, opt for an iconic Roman espresso.Ìý The deliciousness is all worth it, and the pastries are all reasonably priced!
Viale Eritrea, 140 – 144 (Africano)
When in Rome, do what the Romans do!Ìý In this case, indulge in the world of pleasant sugar pleasures that you can combine with your favorite coffee or a glass or aperol spritz whenever the occasion allows it!
Celebrating a special occasion in Rome is always fun, given the fact that there are so many sweet options to choose from. You can order a catering menu for your guests and surprise them with truly Roman flavors.
There is a lot more to explore in the Eternal City, and depending on the neighborhood or your special requests, there will be certainly something fun for everybody willing to flavor the city’s sugary options.
Don’t forget to take pictures of the uniquely-looking Italian desserts and post them onÌý your blog or social media.
