Hsieh Su-wei is the highest-ranked professional tennis player in the history of Taiwan. She is currently ranked at no.9 in the world and has won three singles titles and 30 doubles titles on the WTA Tour.
Hsieh was born on 4 January 1986 to Hsieh Tze-lung and Ho Fom-ju in Hsinchu , Taiwan. Her younger sister, Hsieh Shu-ying, and Brother Hsieh Cheng-peng are also professional tennis players.

1. She was Introduced to Tennis at the age of 5 Years
Hsieh Su-Wei was introduced to tennis by her father at five years of age. She started training at a Taipei tennis school run by a former mainland Chinese player.
She trained with her sister and brother who are also tennis professional players. Hsieh named Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi as her tennis idols.
After Hsieh won the 2013 Wimbledon ladies’ doubles title, her father said that a Chinese company had offered her a sponsorship deal on the condition that she switches her citizenship to the People’s Republic of China.
In response, the government of Taiwan mobilized domestic companies who offered her alternative competing deals.
2. Hsieh Su-wei can Play with Either Hand

Hsieh Su-Wei is one of the professional tennis players in the world who plays with two hands on both sides. Despite her slight build and comparatively short stature, her two-handed groundstrokes are flat, powerful, and are hit with depth.
She incorporates sliced backhands and forehands, drops shots, lobs, volleys, and sharply angled groundstrokes into points. She has been noted for her technical mastery, intelligent style of play, and impressive point construction. For these reasons, and due to the overall completeness of her game, she has been nicknamed by commentators “The Wizard”.
3. She Participated in the 2012 Olympics
In the 2012 Summer Olympics, Hsieh represented Taiwan in the women’s singles tournament and in women’s doubles with Chuang Chia-Jung.
Although she was knocked out in the first round of the singles tournament by her close friend and partner Peng Shuai,
She and Chuang reached the quarterfinals in doubles, where they were beaten by the eventual silver medalists Andrea Hlaváčková and Lucie Hradecká.
4. Hsieh was Ranked world Number one in 2015

Hsieh won her first doubles title with Peng Shuai in 2014 and reached a career-high of world No. 2 in doubles.
Later in the same year, with the semifinal run in doubles at Madrid, Hsieh shared the No. 1 ranking with Peng. She became the first Taiwanese to receive the No. 1 ranking in tennis, whether in singles or doubles, male or female.
However, she failed to defend her title with Peng in Italian Open by losing to Medina Garrigues and Shvedova in the second round in straight sets.
5. She has Won 4 grand slam Double Titles

Hsieh is one of the most successful Tennis players in doubles. She has won 4 major grand slam titles with different partners in her career.
In 2013 she partnered with Peng Shuai to win her first major Grand slam doubles title. They played against Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua on the Wimbledon Grass surface. Hsieh won Wimbledon again in 2019 when she partnered with Barbora Srycova to beat Gabriel Dabrowski and Xu Yifan.
She also partnered with Peng Chui to win the French open in 2014 and Elise Mertens to win Wimbledon in 2021.
6. She has won Three Single Titles
While primarily known for her doubles prowess, Hsieh has also found success on the singles tour. Most of her singles success has come on hard courts, where she has won all three of her WTA Tour titles.
She reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open in 2021, a Premier 5 semifinal in Dubai in 2019, and a Premier Mandatory quarterfinal at the Miami Open in 2019.
Hsieh has also been successful on other surfaces, including reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2018 (defeating world No. 1, Simona Halep in the third round), and the third round of the French Open in 2017. Hsieh has recorded singles victories over several top 15, top 10, and top 5 players.
7. Her sister is a Professional Tennis Player

Hsieh Su-wei’s younger sister, Hsieh Yu-chieh, is also a Taiwanese professional tennis player. She started to play tennis at the age of six together with her big sister.
She made her first WTA Tour quarterfinal at the International-level tournament in Guangzhou, China, partnering with her sister Su-Wei. Her first WTA final followed in September 2018; in Seoul, she and her sister were beaten by Korean pair Choi Ji-hee and Han Na-le.
Hsieh Yu-Chieh achieved her career-high singles ranking of world No. 830 on 20, February 2012. Hsieh has won one WTA 125 doubles title and eight doubles titles on the ITF Circuit.
8. Her Brother is a Professional Tennis Player
Hsieh Cheng-peng is an inactive Taiwanese tennis player, who is a brother to Hsieh Su-Wei. He won the 2008 Wimbledon Championships – Boys’ doubles title alongside Yang Tsung-Hua.
He also won the 2009 US Open – Boys’ doubles with Márton Fucsovics, as well as the 2008 Australian Open – Boys’ doubles title with Yang Tsung-Hua and the 2009 Australian Open – Boys’ doubles title with Francis Casey Alcantara.
Hsieh compiled a doubles win-loss record of 124–33 (69-44 in singles) and reached a career-high of No. 8 in the ITF Junior combined world rankings in April 2009.
9. She was Ranked World Doubles no. 1 in 2020

Hsieh and Strýcová won the first tournament of the year at Brisbane. They followed that up with an appearance in the final at the Australian Open, where they lost to Babos and Mladenovic.
Two more tournament victories followed in February: at Dubai and Doha. As a result, Hsieh regained her No. 1 doubles ranking for the first time since 6 July 2014.
Her gap of 5 years, 6 months, and 28 days between being her separate No. 1 doubles rankings are the second longest in history behind Martina Hingis’s gap of 15 years, 9 months, and 30 days, which spanned from March 2000 to January 2016.

Hsieh has won 3 singles and 30 doubles career titles, including four Grand Slam doubles titles at the Wimbledon Championships in 2013, 2019, and 2021, as well as at the French Open in 2014.
