Megan Lai is a Taiwanese model, actress, and singer. She attended Ming Chuan University. She made her acting debut in 2001 on the television show Hi! Working Girl. She landed one of the show’s larger roles, which helped propel her career forward. After two more television shows, she starred in Mars, a television series based on a popular Japanese manga, in 2004. The show had a large fan base. Her first film, How’s Life, was released the same year. She got one of the lead roles on the show Starry Night in 2005.

She then starred in two more shows and a film before returning to a television show called White Robe of Love. Since then, she has played a significant role in nearly every film in which she has appeared. She has been featured in a number of shows, including Because of You, The Invaluable Treasure, 1949, and Next Heroes. She has also been cast in several films and contributed numerous songs to various soundtracks.

1. She is a recording artiste who composes music

Her debut album, “Love,” was released in 2004, shortly after she started acting. “It’s Me” is one of her most famous songs, as well as a fan favorite. It’s a heartbreaking ballad about the agony of knowing you’re in love with the wrong person from her most recent album, “F.A.C.E.”

Megan began her modeling career when she was 15 years old. She appeared on the Taiwanese variety show ‘Guess’ in the segment ‘Do not judge a book by its cover,’ alongside fellow contestant Hebe Tien. She was given the opportunity to work with a reputable modeling agency, magazine photo shoots, television commercials, and advertisements. In 2001, she appeared in Stefanie Sun’s music video ‘Kite.’ She then played several music videos, including Sammi Cheng’s ‘Future,’ ‘Firework Live,’ ‘Hotline for Help,’ ‘Pisces Love,’ ‘Give Me A Reason To Forget,’ ‘Love Forever,’ and many more.

3. She is a best-selling author

Megan wrote and published a book entitled; Taiwan’s Dae Jang Geum Skincare Collection: Megan Lai’s Oriental Beauty Secrets. It gives advice and tidbits on how to maintain youthful and radiant skin. 

4. Lai almost quit the entertainment industry

She almost left the industry after becoming tired of being typecast as the pitiful second lead, Wong Qian Qian, in “Story of Time,” a throwback drama about five families and their children growing up in Taiwan in the 1970s. Wong Qian Qian was her breakthrough role, demonstrating her popularity and talent as an actress. She attributed her perseverance to her faith in God whom she says didn’t let her abandon her trade at her lowest moment.

5. Megan collaborated with Addidas for the Supershell project

Following the global success of the Superstar Supercolor concept, Pharrell Williams’ pioneering work in bringing art and expression into the footwear world continued with the Adidas Originals Supershell project. Adidas Originals and Pharrell collaborated with a group of artists to create a collection of limited edition Superstars with a distinctive shell toe design, hence the name Supershell.
There are two packs in the collection, the Artwork pack, and the Sculpted pack, in which the designers, including Megan Lai, have left their mark.

6. She expertly managed to juggle her acting career and school

Lai attended Taipei Municipal Datong High School, where she served as President of the school’s pop dance club. Shih Hsin University awarded her a bachelor’s degree in Information Communications. She enrolled as a part-time student at Ming Chuan University in 2008 managing to attain a Master of Arts in Design Management in 2011. 

7. Lai hates antiques used by the media

It’s the part of her job that she still doesn’t understand. She complains that every time while promoting her work, the media conjures up either dating or feuding rumors with other celebrities. Though whether or not it is all rumors is debatable, as her “Story of Time” co-star Leroy Yang was photographed near her house in 2009.

8. She is well known for her gender-bending roles

Gender swapping, also known as gender-bending, is defined as deviating from the canonical norm in a fictional character’s biological sex or gender identity (changes). Her first gender-bending role was “Bromance.” She previously appeared in the romantic comedy “Cafe Waiting Love” as a boyish barista. The film is about the employees of “Cafe Waiting,” where love finds those who wait.

The Golden Bell Awards are an annual Taiwanese television and radio production award presented by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, a division of Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, in October or November each year. Megan has received nominations for her roles in How’s Life, Invaluable Treasure 1949, Proposal, and The End of Love
