Joe Chen also known as Chen Chiao-en is a Taiwanese actress, singer, and Television host. She was born on 4th April 1979 in Hukou, Hsinchu in Taiwan to Chin Fu Cheng and Chin –Feng Lu. 

Known as the “Queen of Idol Dramas” Chen is known for her roles in The Prince Who Turns into a Frog in 2005, Fated to Love in 2008, and The Queen of SOP.

Chen’s popularity in China rose in the year 2013, due to her role as  Dongfang Bubai in the Chinese wuxia series Swordsman.

She’s married to Malaysian Artist Alan Chen.

1. Joe Chen Worked as a Model

Joe Chen began working as a model and assistant in 2001. She entered the entertainment industry after winning 1st place on the Sanlih Television talent show In 2002.

Chen started her acting career by taking on a supporting role in the television drama, Lavender. She also started hosting SET variety shows Zhong Guo Na Me Da and Zong Yi Qi Jian, alongside famous Taiwanese hosts Jacky Wu and Nono. 

She attracted the attention of Set’s executive Zong Limei, who cast her in 100% Senorita in 2003. This was her first leading role, and the TV drama became the highest-rated in Taiwan. 

2. She won the Best Actress in the Modern Drama Award

Joe starred in her first-period drama “Cruel Romance” alongside Huang Xiaoming in 2015. The film achieved high ratings and was extremely popular during its run.

She won the Best Actress award at the the17th Huading Awards for her performance in the drama. The series was aired on Hunan TV from 3rd March to 26th March 2015.

The series was a commercial success and became the second highest-rated television drama for the first half of 2015. It also has over 5 billion views online.

Joe Chen won the Most Popular Actress award at the 5th China TV Drama Awards.  She rose to mainstream popularity in China after she starred in the Chinese wuxia drama “Swordsman”.

The series was adapted from Louis Cha’s novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. she portrayed the anti-heroine  Dongfang Bubai, but there were initial doubts about her character since Dongfang Bubai is a male in the original novel.

Joe later won the hearts of the audience through her complex and rich portrayal of her character.

4. She is married to a Malaysian Artist

Joe married Alan Chen, a Malaysian artist on April 2022 in Taipei after dating for two years. They met on a Tv reality show “Meeting Mr. Right” in 2019.

.Alan comes from a well-to-do family in Johor Malaysia and started painting at an early age. He was exposed to Western painting styles during his Secondary School in Singapore.

He relocated to Taiwan to be close to Joe during the Covid 19 pandemic.

In 2013, Joe’s popularity rose in China, she gained a large number of fans for her role as  Dongfang Bubai in the Chinese wuxia series Swordsman. She also entered the Forbes China Celebrity 100 List for the first time and was ranked 99th. In 2014, she was ranked 65th, In 2015 she was 61st, and 51st in 2017.

 The Forbes China Celebrity 100 is a list published every year that ranks the influence of Chinese celebrities. It was first published in 2004, it is similar to American Celebrity magazine.

In the past years, the list only included Celebrities born in China Mainland but in the year 2010, the list started to include Chinese celebrities born in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The band debuted on October 28th,2005, and was active from 2004 until it was disbanded in December 2009. The group’s famous song is Pai Jin Nu Hai which was released in 2006.

 In the year 2005, Joe Starred in the Tv Series “The Prince who turns into a Frog. The series was first broadcast in Taiwan on free-to-air Taiwan Television-TTV from 5th June 2005 to 16th October 2005, every Sunday at 21:30.

Episode seven was broadcast on 17th July 2005, which achieved an average rating of 7.05 and peaked at 8.05 and was the highest peak for a single episode for an idol drama until 2008.

 The series was well-received, it became one of the most popular Taiwanese idol dramas throughout Asia and brought shot her to fame.
