Top 10 Interesting Facts about Jasper Liu

Jasper Liu Yi-hao is a Taiwanese actor, model, and musician.  Some of his most notable works include More than Blue (2018) Before We Get Married (2019), Triad Princess (2019), and Pleasantly Surprised (2014).

He was born on August 12, 1986, in Taipei, Taiwan. He has one sister and is the younger cousin of actor Angus Hsieh, who is best known for starring in the drama The Outsiders (2004).

Here are the top interesting facts about Jasper Liu.

1. He Started Modelling at the University

Jasper Liu Yi-hao started his career in modeling at Dayen University where he was studying visual design. In 2008 he entered the male model contest and emerged in the third position.

He joined the showbiz industry immediately after completing his studies and was signed to a modeling agency. His first three years in the industry brought little success in his career and his monthly earnings were minimal.

His modeling career started after he starred as “Mei Nam” in the 2011 idol drama “In Time with You”. He immediately started modeling for prominent fashion designers in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea.

After playing non-credited roles and starring in microfilms Liu’s big break came in 2011 when he starred in the minor supporting role of “Mei Nam” in the popular GTV drama “Time with You”.

Liu decided to keep the curly hair look of his character which would eventually become his signature look in the industry. He continued to play supporting roles in idol dramas, such as 2012’s “Once upon a Love” in a small cameo role and the teen comedy-drama “Confucius”.

3. He landed his first acting Leading Role in 2013

In 2013, Liu landed his first male leading role in PTS’s critically acclaimed and award-nominated drama The Patisserie with No Name as “Allen”.

 The film theme features a stranded backpacker, who accidentally stumbles into a small French pastry shop while trying to recover his stolen belongings and then requests to stay at the pastry shop by working for room and board.

He also appeared as “Luo Jia He”, a man who falls in love with a girl who was raised like a sibling to his character.

4. He Starred in Taiwan’s Comedy Drama

Jasper Liu Yi-hao signed with Taiwan cable network Salih E-Television to star in their dramas. His first project was 2014’s SETTV’s romantic comedy Pleasantly Surprised. He starred with his childhood friend Puffo Kuo and they went on to win the “Best Kiss” award at the 2014 Sanlih Drama Awards.

That same year, two of Liu’s theatrical films that were filmed in 2013 were released in theaters. “Live@Love” in which he stars in his first leading role in a theatrical film, co-stars Cheryl Yang whom he previously worked with in the 2012 GTV television drama “Once upon a Love”.

5. Liu’s Father Highly Influenced his Life

Jasper Liu’s father highly influenced his life; he was a swimmer and volleyball player in his youth. His healthy and active lifestyle encouraged Liu to work out regularly and body builds his physique during his late teens.

His father also played the guitar and influenced Liu to take up the instrument himself.

Liu has said one of the reasons he entered show business is because he often felt overshadowed by his father and an older sister who both hold higher college degrees than him.

2010 was one of Liu’s lowest and most depressing years. his grandmother died, his mother battled breast cancer, and his older sister suffered high blood pressure.

6. Curly Hair Style is his Signature Look

Although naturally straight-haired he decided to keep the curly-permed look of his character “Mei Nam” after the filming of the drama was completed.

He is popularly known for his signature curly hair which resembled the top of a broccoli head giving him the nickname “Village Chief of Broccoli Village”.

7. He was a Member of “Band Morning Call”

When not modeling or acting, Liu is the guitarist for popular Taiwanese indie band Morning Call, signed to and managed by Eelin Entertainment. It was formed in 2011 and the group writes and produces its own songs.

 After performing in underground live houses for several years, they finally made their official debut in 2015 by releasing digital singles. The group often tours small music venues around Asia.

In December 2016, the band announced that they would be on indefinite hiatus after the departure of keyboardist Xiao Ying. The following year, bassist Meng Shu also left the band. Followed by Liu’s departure from Eelin Entertainment in 2019, the group has naturally disbanded.

8. Liu has won the Face of Asia Award

Jasper Liu Yi-hao has been nominated and won various awards throughout his career. In 2008 he emerged third in Eelin model search.

Other awards he has won are the best couple award which he co-won with Puff Kuho, the best actor award, the best kiss awards, the Asia star award, the face of Asia award AAAchoice award, and the dazzling star award.

He has also been nominated for china wave awards, best actor award, Weibo popularity award, and best screen award.

9. He Co-starred in “Before we get Married” Drama in 2019

Liu reunited with co-star Puff Kuo for the drama Before We Get Married which is adapted from a novel of the same title. After its release on 31 May 2019, it generated huge online buzz across Mainland China and in Taiwan.

The drama performed well on online streaming sites, gaining over 400 million views.  His performance in the drama was widely praised as it showed a different image from his past bright characters.

10. Jasper Liu Yi-hao Lives with his Parents

Liu lives with his parents in his childhood home in Taipei. He enjoys traveling and going on vacations with his parents during his time off.

Besides writing songs, Liu is also interested in oil painting and his dog is his favorite subject of his painting. He has also donated some of his paintings to charity.
