Ella Chen was born on June 18, 1981. She was initially known as Chen Chia Hua but she was given the name ‘Ella’ by her record company HIM International Music after she become part of them.

She has been active in her career from 2001 to date. She is a Taiwanese singer, actress, and television host. Ella can also play instruments such as Vocals, Piano and guitar.

Chen is a member of the Pop Girls Group and is outspoken among the girls. She has been the spokesperson of the group and has been the one answering questions about the S.H.E group to interviewers.

1. Member of Chinese Pop Girl Group S.H.E

Ella is a member of the pop girl group S.H.E. The group consist of only three members namely Selina Jen, Hebe Tien and now Ella Chen. It was formed in 2001 and it is managed by HIM International Music.

 She joined the group after participating in the Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest with help of her older sister who registered her name and encouraged when she almost gave up.

2. She Never Gave up on Acting Career Despite the Challenges She Faced

While she was working under the S.H.E group, Ella has been the most accident-prone member. She was sent to hospital after jumping from the third story of a building on July 29, 2003, after injuring her spine while filming a variety program as the other two members refused to Jump. No matter the injury Ella returned three weeks later to promote Super Star.

She also occurred an accident again in 2005, while filming the Reaching for the Stars, she burned her ears and hair on a candle and her crew members send her to the National Taiwan University Hospital. After recovering she never wasted time, she only stayed 2 days away from filming and went back to production.

3. The Outspoken Member of S.H.E

Among the three members of the S.H.E group, a Taiwanese girl’s group managed by HIM International Music Ella is the outspoken one.

The group members are Selina Jen, Hebe Tien and Ella Chen. Since the release of S.H.E’s first album in the year 2011, Ella has been the one to answer reporters’ questions.

4. She is a Good Actress

Ella was featured in a drama series ‘The Rose’ together with Jerry Huang and Joe Cheng in 2003. The Drama series gave her the title of one of the best and most popular drama actresses after the drama series was a success and was voted the Most Popular Drama in Golden Bell Awards.

In the year 2005, Ella proved once again that she is a good actress and can act very well after they did a drama series with her S.H.E group mates known as Reaching for the Stars and she was the only member nominated for Best Lead Actress in 41^st Golden Bell Awards.

5. She has Appeared in Various Music Videos

Since Chen is an actress and a singer, she has starred in various music videos in a line of her career. Some of the Music videos she has featured in include the following:

In the year 2017, Ella starred in the music video of the song known Beginning of the End by Mayday. She has well appeared in Nine One One’s Song called Like Boom Boom in the year 2019 among others.

6. Chen Acted in Many Films

Since Ella was known as a talented and good actress, who leaves success in whatever work she is involved in, she has been invited to many movie films to feature in.

In 2010, she acted in The Long Goodbye film and Abba in 2011. She starred in 2 films in the year 2012 namely Perfect Two and Bad Girls in the role of Ma Niu and Ah Dan respectively.

She was also involved in the ‘The Missing Piece’ film as Sha Sha in 2015 and lastly, she appeared in Big Three Dragons in 2019 as Shen Wu Que.

7. She Co-hosted Television Show with Harlem Yu

Chen Co-hosted a Tv show with Harlem Yu. Harlem Yu is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter, businessman and television Host.  The Tv show they hosted was a dating show.

On April 13, 2013, the dating show known as Take Me Out started airing. Harlem and Chen made this show one of the best and people loved it. Eventually, Ella was nominated at the 49^th Golden Bell Awards for Best Entertainment Tv Show Host along with Yu.

8. Ella’s Voice Earned her a Chance to be a Member of S.H.E Group

HIM International Music held a Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest in search of new artists to sign under their label on August 8, 2000. When Chen had travelled with her sister to Taipei for a holiday, she discovered her sister has registered her for the singing competition. 

She wanted to give up due to her tomboy personality, even before the first round of competition, but her elder sister convinced her to participate.

Her deep voice was noticed and caught the label’s attention. Ella managed to reach the final round. Her alto voice was noted for its strong and beautiful nature. Later, she received a call from HIM International and they request an additional audition. Test recording was done and Chen was chosen and signed on as part of HIM’s newest member of the S.H.E group.

9. Starred in Popular Television Series

The actress has starred in different popular and famous Television Series. The series are many we can only talk of view. Some of Ella’s Television Series she has starred in are:

Magical Love is a television series that starred members of the S.H.E group, Ella being one of them and other stars like Lan Cheng-Lung and Janet Li in 2001. The Rose drama series starred Ella Chen together with Joy Cheng, Jerry Huang and Cecilia among others in 2005.

Ella was also featured in Reaching for the Stars in the year 2005, Down With Love in 2010, Love by the River in 2014, Ji Pin Da Zuo Zhan in 2013 and The Lying Game in 2014.

10. Chen has Released her Extended Plays

It is interesting to know that Chen has released her own Extended plays. She has three Extended plays she released from 2007.

Pinyin: Qiang Qiang was the first extended play released by Ella on August 24, 2007. On March 30, 2012, she released another extended play known as ‘To Be Ella’ and lastly, she released ‘Me vs Me on October 28, 2016.
