Top 10 Facts about Wulai Falls
The Wulai Waterfall is located in the Wulai District, which is near the city of Taipei in Xinbei. The city of Taipei is the New Taipei City in Taiwan.

1. Wulai Water Fall is the Highest in Northern Taiwan
Wulai waterfalls are the highest waterfalls in Northern Taiwan with a height of 80 meters high. The highest point of this waterfall sits at a height of 230 meters above sea level.
The fall drops at a height of 150 meters above sea level. The waterfall is about 10 meters wide.
2. Waterfall is Known as the Waterfall in the Cloud
The Wulai Waterfalls which claims to have the most significant drop in height in Northern Taiwan is also known as the “waterfall in the cloud.” During the rule of Japan, the waterfall was listed among the eight scenic spots in Taiwan.
The waterfall breaks into two magnificent streams of water during the season of plentiful rainfall. Visitors also enjoy blushing cherry blossoms during the spring season next to the waterfall.
3. Wulai Log Cart or the Gondola are Used for Transport
Upon visiting the Wulai waterfall, visitors use the Wulai log cart to explore the waterfall well. The cart log has a railroad and is the only one that still exists to date in Taiwan.
This cart log which was used to transport logs during the old days was converted into a tourism cart in 1963. The cart log gives the Passengers a good view of the forested mountains in the open carriages.
At the terminal station where the waterfall is located, visitors can see the up close. Moreover, to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere produced by the surrounding mountains and waterfall.
When visitors arrive at the Waterfall Station, their transfer from the cart log to the Wulai Gondola. As it ascends the waterfall, it gives the visitors a panoramic view of the waterfall.
The terminal station which is known as the Yun Hsien Resort is the gondola’s terminal station. Here the Visitors stay for a night which is full of activities such as guided frog-viewing tours at night or having a boat ride at the lake.
4. Wulai Falls Sit Across the Nanshi Creek
The main watercourse of the Wulai waterfall was Nanshi Creek. It was cutting through the Wulai valley. But the creek eventually joined up with the other tributaries such as the Xindian Creek cutting through Taipei.
The lowest level of Wulai was where lookout areas were peering right at the waterfall. Down there are also a lot of cafes and shops. Further up towards the uppermost level cable cars are leading up to the tops of the neighbouring cliffs.
5. There are Hotels Around the Falls
In Wulai Old Street there are aboriginal delicacies which are found on the Old Wulai Street. This includes fried river fish and bamboo rice.
Most of the people occupying the Wulai area are mostly the Atayal. The meaning of “Wulai” is “hot spring” in the Atayal language.
Also, visitors are allowed to have an overnight trip to Wulai and around Wulai Old Street. This helps them to learn more about Atayal culture.
Additionally, there is a soak in the hot springs and visitors can take a log cart to view the beautiful waterfall. The Wulai forest, waterfalls and the hot springs are also easily reached from Taipei by bus.
6. There are Cable Cars at the Waterfalls
One of the easiest ways that have been implemented to view easily the wulai waterfall is through the use of a cable car. While using cable cars, It’s easier to see most of the hidden Cascade and waterfalls which are found at the waterfall’s main drops.
At the top of the waterfall, there are also restaurants and accommodation facilities together, along with the cable car station.

Wulai Falls is among the best and most attractive features in northern Taiwan. The falls are currently the main Wulai tourist attraction site.
The amount of water that goes over the waterfalls daily depends on the precipitation level. Wulai Falls drop for 80 metres which are 260 feet. The distance to the falls from Taipei City is 30 km which is 20 miles from Taipei City.
8. The Wulai Forestry Museum is Near the Waterfalls
Wulai Forestry Life Museum which is located near the Wulai waterfall is always opened by the Forestry Bureau. The museum’s main exhibition is the detailed development of forestry around Wulai. It also displays the historical origins of the Wulai logging tramways and forestry development.
Apart from the forestry culture exhibitions, there are places to carry out fun activities. It also has woodcraft DIY workshops as a fun course for both adults and children.
9. The waterfalls were once the Eight Sceneries of Taiwan
The attractive waterfalls with beautiful mountains and rivers were once the eight sceneries of Taiwan. It was also recognized as the “little red cliff” because of the cliffs at the banks.
10. The Wulai waterfall has Bike Riding Areas
The area around the falls is well maintained for bike rides around the riverside cycling paths. Visitors can enjoy a two-hour bike around the area.
