Terry Gou was born in October 1950 in Banqiao, Taipei, Taiwan. His father was a police officer and they lived in mainland China Shanxi Province until they fled to Taiwan in 1949.

He is a famous Taiwanese billionaire business giant who founded Foxconn. He is the Chairman, Founder, and the Chief Executive Officer of the great company.

Gou married Serena Lin and had a son who works in the film and estate industries. His daughter also worked in the financial sector. He founded an educational charity with his wife Serena Liz and committed to giving one-third of their wealth to the charity.

After the death of his wife, his daughter resumed the management and leadership of the charity.

Due to his striking similarity to the President of the United States of America, he was also known as the “Donald Trump of Taiwan”. Their similarities include; influential business empires, and enormous wealth, they both married more than once and have younger wives.

1. He is the Founder of Foxconn

Terry Gou founded the largest multinational electronic contract manufacturer in the world in 1974. It has its headquarters based in Tucheng, New Taipei City, Taiwan.

It is considered the largest technology manufacturer as well as a service provider in the entire world. The company is not only the largest private sector employer in the republic of China but also the largest employer worldwide.

Some of the products manufactured by the company include; BlackBerry, iPod, iPad, and iPhone.

2. Terry Gou Worked in a Rubber Factory and a Grinding Wheel

Gou was the second-born child in his family and he was educated from elementary school to post-college. His family lived in mainland China until they fled to Taiwan after the Chinese civil war in 1949.

After Gou graduated, he first worked at a grinding wheel, a rubber factory, and a medicine plant until he attained the age of 24.

Even though his family was not very wealthy, his older sister and his younger brother have become very successful businesspeople as well.

3. He is an Aggressive and Passionate Salesman

Terry Gou began his company, Hon Hai with only 7,500 dollars which was the startup money with about ten elderly workers in 1974. The major turning point for the company came in 1980 when he was contracted to make console joysticks from Atari.

His business further grew in the 1980s when he embarked on a journey to search for customers for eleven months in the United States.

He was so passionate that he visited headquarters of great companies uninvited for additional orders though he was at times chased away.

4. His Largest Factory Remains in Mainland China

Terry Gou opened his first factory in Mainland China in 1988. The factory is located in Shenzhen and it’s the place where the largest factory remains to date.

The operations in China however increased after he integrated both the assembling process and facilities for workers.

The manufacturing site, later on, became a campus that included several houses, dining, burial for the workers, and medical care.

The facility also contains a chicken farm to supply to the various cafeterias.

5. After he Retired Young Liu was Named Chairman of Foxconn

After the retirement of Terry Gou in 2019, Foxconn named Young Liu its new chairman effective on 1st July 2019. Young Liu was the head of the business group of semiconductors and a very special assistant to Terry Gou.

The handover of the company was very critical and would determine the future of the great company. The company however has matured in the area of Smartphone assembling.

6. He Came Second in the 2019 Kuomintang presidential election

Gou was already considered a 2020 Taiwanese presidential bid in 2016. The belief that he would consider the presidential position continued in 2017.

In 2019 he announced his intention to run for the 2020 presidential election. He also claimed that he was instructed to run for the presidential position by a sea goddess Mazu in a dream.

He however came second in the 2019 Kuomintang presidential election and four days later withdrew from the presidential elections.

7. He was Blackmailed for Extramarital Affair

In the 1990s, Gou had sexual relations with a bar girl named Chen Chung-Mei. Chen however hired a private investigator to videotape her and Gou having the affair to blackmail him for money.

Gou first agreed to give her the money but when they next met, Gou came in with the police officer. Both Chen and her private investigator were arrested.

Gou later said that he already knew that the affair would be exposed in one way or another.

8. Terry Gou Married a Second Wife, Delia Tseng

Gou’s first wife Serena Lin passed on in 2005 as a result of breast cancer at the age of 55. His younger brother also later died in 2007 from Leukemia.

In July 2008, Gou married a second wife, a choreographer named Delia Tseng. They both have three children and have decided to give away 90% of their wealth.

9. Terry Gou is the Third Richest Person in Taiwan

Gou has been a very inspirational figure in the entire world for his success in a business where he ventured without a godfather. This determination, dedication, and hard work have earned him a lot of wealth.

He is worth about $10.6 billion which makes him the third richest person in entire Taiwan. He is also the most popular person in Taiwan which has surpassed the popularity of the current president.

10. Building Chassis was a Highly Profitable Venture for Gou

Gou’s company ventured into Building Chassis for Compaq desktops in 1996, and it turned out to be the most profitable venture.

Sooner the company began to build barebones chassis for the other more profitable customers which included HP and IBM. Gou later linked a great deal with Apple Inc. and this marked the beginning of massive profitability for the company.

Terry Gou is a world inspiration, especially for his passion and determination. He did not have any godfather in his life and still went on to build an international business.

He is also very wealthy and his popularity exceeded the popularity of the current president.
