Rainie Yang is a popular Taiwanese artist who has won multiple music and film awards in her career. She has also hosted some of the top popular television talk shows in Taiwan.

Born on 4 June 1984 in Taipei, Yang shot to fame in the early 2000s for her work in the television drama series ¡°Meteor Garden¡± and ¡°Devil Beside You¡±.

Throughout her career, she has appeared on 22 television series, starred in 10 movies, and released 12 studio albums. She has also appeared in 10 television talk shows as a host or a participant.

1. She Started her career as a Teenager

Rainie Yang attended Hwa Kang Arts School which specialized in performing arts when she was still a teenager. She joined a Taiwanese music girl¡¯s group known as ¡°4 in love¡± in 2000, where she was given the stage name Rannie.

4 in Love is a former Taiwanese all-female pop group that was formed in 2000 and constituted of four teenage girls. The group achieved only limited success and was disbanded two years later in 2002.

After the group was disbanded, Yang continued to pursue her career in the entertainment industry as a TV host and played supporting roles in a series of Taiwanese TV dramas.

2. She released her Debut Album in 2005

Rainie Yang released her first solo studio album on 9 September 2005. The album was produced by Sony Music Taiwan and sold more than 1.5 million copies in East and Southeast Asia.

The album contains ten tracks, and two of them are featured as the theme songs in the Taiwanese drama ¡°Devil Beside You¡±. The second edition of the album was released in the same year and included a VCD with five music videos.

It was awarded one of the Top 10 Selling Mandarin Albums of the Year at the 2005 IFPI Hong Kong Album Sales Awards, presented by the Hong Kong branch of IFPI.

3. Rainie Yang Released her Second Album in 2007

Yang released her second album, Meeting Love on 17 March 2006.  It was produced by sony music Taiwan and her second mandarin studio album

The album was available for pre-order and included four music videos and 40 minutes of highlight footage of Rainie Yang’s Meeting Love Celebration Concert.

Two of the album tracks ¡°Meeting Love¡± and ¡°Celebration¡± were nominated for Top 10 Gold Songs at the Hong Kong TVB8 Awards, presented by television station TVB8, in 2006.

4. Rainie Yang Signed for EMI Taiwan in 2014

In 2014, Yang signed to EMI Taiwan, a revived label that is now a subsidiary of Universal Music Taiwan. She released her ninth studio album  ¡°A Tale of Two Rainie¡± with the label on 12 December 2014.

EMI was acquired by universal music group in 2012, and it is the biggest music company in the world. it is one of the “Big Three” record labels, along with Sony Music and Warner Music Group. 

Rainie Yang is still in contract with EMI and has released three more albums with the label.

5. She Starred in the Film ¡°Tag-along 2″

Rainie Yang starred as Li Shu-fen in the movie ¡°Tag along 2¡± which was released in 2017. It is a Taiwanese horror film directed by Cheng Wei ¨CHao.

It is a sequel to The Tag-Along which was released in 2015 and had received funding from Taiwan’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development.

Three weeks after its release, the film became the top domestic box office hit in 2017, earning a gross of NT$92 million. It became the highest-grossing local horror film of the past decade.

6. She Got Injured while Filming in 2008

In 2008, Yang fell heavily from the stairs while filming the Taiwanese drama “Miss No Good” in San Chih, Taiwan. She got injured and was sent to Mackay Memorial Hospital in Taipei.

The X-ray examination revealed she had suffered a spinal contusion and was admitted to the hospital for several days. She was later taken to a Chinese therapist by her producer after she left the hospital.

“Miss No Good”, in which she starred with Will Pan, was aired during the fall and winter of 2008 and it became a success

7. Rainie Yang Hosted top Television Talk Shows

Rainie Yang made her debut as a television talk show host in 2002 on a popular Taiwanese talk show known as the Guess. It was a variety show that aired weekly from 1996 to 2012.

She went ahead to host the “entertainment news show”  from 2002 to 2004 and a “game show” in 2003. Yang also appeared on “One Million Stars” in 2009, “Mask Singer” in 2016, “Shake It Up” in 2018, “Jungle Voice” in 2018, “Heart Signal” in 2019, and “The Sisters who Make Wave” in 2021.

8. She is Married to a Chinese Song Writer

Rainie Yang’s first romantic relationship was in her school days when she dated her high school classmate Alien Huang. However, their relationship ended after she dropped out of school to concentrate on her entertainment career.

In December 2014, Yang began dating Chinese singer-songwriter Li Ronghao, who wrote the song “Xing Fu Guo Zi” for her in 2007. They got engaged on 11 July 2019 Li¡¯s 34th birthday and became officially married on 17 September 2019.

9. She has Won Several Awards in her Career

Rainie Yang is one of the most successful artists in Taiwan. As a musician and an actress, she has won some of the most prestigious awards and nominations in southeastern Asia.

She first won the best new artist in the metro radio hits music award in 2005. Since then Yang has won more than 40 music awards and nominations becoming one of the most feted artists in Taiwan.

10.  Rainie Yang is a supporter of LGBT Rights

On 9 October 2016, Rainie Yang attended the new album autograph session, and voiced her support for LGBT homosexual marriage equal rights. 

Yang said that homosexuality is not a crime and love is inherently gender neutral. She also said that she would like to continue playing gay acting roles in the future. Yang co-starred in the lesbian-themed film Spider Lilies with Isabella Leong in 2007.
