Ruben Estephan Vargas Martinez was born on 5th August 1998. He is a Swiss professional footballer who currently plays for Bundesliga club FC Augsburg and the Swiss national team.
Vargas was born in Adligenswil, Switzerland, to a Dominican father and a Swiss mother, and he is a dual citizen of the two countries. Vargas shares a hometown with ex-Switzerland captain and former Augsburg teammate Stephan Lichtsteiner.
He plays in the Bundesliga, one of the world’s top leagues with players earning six figures. As a result, he is benefiting from his football career. The majority of his earnings came from his soccer career. In 2017, his annual salary at FC Luzern was £33,280, and in 2018, it was £36,400. Ruben received an annual salary of £4,16,000 after joining FC Augsburg, including all bonuses.

Ruben was born in Switzerland, but his father Victor is from the Dominican Republic, making him the league’s first player with ties to the Caribbean island nation. Vargas began his career with his hometown club FC Adligenswil before joining FC Luzern, where he worked his way up through the youth ranks to the first team over the course of a decade. The highly rated young winger earned a potentially career-changing move to the Bundesliga after scoring eight goals and assisting eight times in 2018/19.
2. Vargas ended his first Bundesliga season with six goals

Ruben adapted like a duck to the German top flight. In only his second game, he put Augsburg ahead against Union Berlin at home, giving them their first point of the season. The following weekend, he went one better at Werder Bremen, scoring twice as the 10-man Fuggerstädter were narrowly defeated at the Weser Stadion. Vargas finished his debut season in the Bundesliga with six goals and two assists in 33 league appearances.
3. Vargas was named to Switzerland’s squad for UEFA Euro 2020
This was after another six goals and three assists in 30 appearances in 2020/21. He’s played in three of their four matches so far, including a shock victory over world champions France. Vargas stepped up to score their seventh penalty in an 8-7 shootout victory, sending Switzerland into the competition’s quarter-finals to celebrate his 15th international cap in style.

Vargas, a diminutive winger with pace, panache, and a low center of gravity, resembles fellow Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri, though he is less robust than the former Bayern Munich player, who now plays for Liverpool. He, who describes himself as “very cheeky” on the pitch, especially in the final third, admits that he still needs to bulk up physically in order to put extra pressure on defenders.

Ruben the winger, like other players, is sponsored by the sports brand Nike. He is also a Nike brand ambassador, which promotes its products online. He makes a tidy sum of money out of it. According to reports, he appeared in 19 games for Luzern’s senior team during his sophomore year, recording one goal, one assist, and three yellow cards. During his two-year stint, he played in 50 games and sent the ball behind the net nine times.
Finally, in the summer of 2019, Ruben signed a five-year contract with Augsburg, becoming the first Dominican-born Bundesliga player. In the 2017-18 season, he scored his first goal for Augsburg against Union Berlin in his second match.
Ruben has played 95 Bundesliga games and three DFB-Pokal matches as of 2022. The Dominican descent player is an important member of the Augsburg team.
9. Ruben Vargas is a dual citizen
He has dual nationality as a result of his mixed ethnicity. He has the legal right to play for both countries if he so desires. However, as of today, the professional has only represented Switzerland. He is a Switzerland youth international who first represented his country at the U21 level in 2018. In 2019, the athlete received his first call-up to the Swiss national team for the EURO 2020 qualifiers.
