Venus Isabelle Palermo is a Swiss YouTuber. She uses the name ‘Venus Angelic’ on her social media accounts. Venus was born on 8 February 1997 in Brugg, Switzerland. She started uploading videos on YouTube at the age of 12.
Known for her doll-like appearance, she blew up on the internet when her video on ‘how to look like a doll’ went viral in 2012. Her fame and doll-fanatic sensation earned her numerous TV and magazine interviews and appearances.

1. Venus Palermo is an only child
She was born in Brugg, Switzerland on 8 February 1997. Her mother’s name is Margaret Palermo. At 11, she moved with her mother to Spain and later settled in London. In London, Venus did not have many friends, and her mother was mainly the constant social presence in her teen years.
2. She began her YouTube career at 12
At 12, Venus started uploading videos on a YouTube channel ‘Venus Angelica’, which had been created by her mother. The content was very subtle, sweet, and childlike and her mother directed most of the videos.
Venus, who naturally has a doll-like appearance would dress like a doll in the Japanese style ‘Lolita’. Her mother is said to be a great fan of Japanese styles, and Venus would dress up similarly. She would also upload make-up tutorials.
3. She rose to fame in 2012
On 2 March 2012, Venus uploaded a YouTube video on ‘How to look like a doll.’ The video went viral on the internet platforms. Her doll-like appearance catapulted her even further into fame, and soon enough, she had become an internet sensation.
4. Her mother directed most of her content
Margaret Palermo created the YouTube channel when Venus was only 12. She instructed and directed almost all of the videos. She also managed the account. She accompanied her on interviews and regulated much of what Venus could do or say. This is according to Venus, in her independent videos exposing her manipulative relationship with her mother after the two fell apart.

After her viral video in 2012 on how to look like a doll, she starred in several magazines as ‘a living doll’. She was also invited to TV shows. Venus soon got her doll-themed segment show on the ‘My Strange Addiction’ series on TLC.
6. She ran away to Japan in 2016
In 2014, Venus started a relationship with Manaki, a Japanese man whom she had met online. Manaki was a huge fan of her videos. He was 6 years older than her. Venus’ mother disapproved of this relationship and made several attempts to cut it short. Venus accused her mother of deleting any post she uploaded with Manaki and insulting him.
In December 2015, the two married by mail, as Manaki was in Japan and Venus in Korea at the time. In 2016, Venus ran off to Japan, against her mother’s will.
7. Venus has claimed that her mother abused her
Having run off to Japan, Venus uploaded a video on YouTube on June 5, 2016, on why she ran away from home. In the video, she explains that she had been subject to manipulation, control, and emotional abuse from her mother from a young age.
She also states that her mother directed everything she did on the channel, and failure to do what she wanted would result in threats. Venus claimed that her mother would threaten to harm herself if she acted contrary to her will.
Margaret Palermo, her mother, dismissed these statements in a video as well, denying the accusations. She reported Venus’ channel numerous times, and it was deleted for a while. The embittered relationship between mother and daughter evoked varied emotions from the online audience.
8. She underwent a weight-loss surgery that almost cost her life
In May 2016, Venus sought to undergo weight-loss surgery. She had contacted over 50 doctors, with none willing to perform the procedure. This is because Venus was only 53 kgs at the time, and such an operation was life-threatening, to say the least.
In May, she managed to find a doctor in South Korea who was willing to do the surgery. She left Japan for the procedure. It involved removing up to 150 cm of her intestines.
Venus reported that she was in so much pain and would vomit several times a day. Her weight dropped to 38 kg. Venus however got a stomach infection and could hardly eat or drink from the resulting complications of the surgery.
She was admitted to a hospital in Japan and treated with stomach medication and an IV drip.
9. She has over 1.7 million subscribers on Youtube
Her channel, Venus Angelic Official has grown into a considerable number of subscriptions, reaching 1.79 million. She has a total of 360 uploaded videos, and her total views amount to more than 251 million.
She has won the 100, 000 subscribers and 1 million subscribers YouTube awards. The account has been active since 2012. Most of the content is on daily life interactions, Japan, and her life journey since falling out with her mother.
10. Venus Palermo now creates adult content
Besides her YouTube channel, Venus intimated that she was creating an OnlyFans account. OnlyFans is a content subscription service primarily used by pornographic content creators although it also has a market for fitness trainers and musicians.
