Arosa is a beautiful mountain town with numerous hiking trails, including some suitable for strollers. One of them features a Weisshornbahn themed squirrel trail. If you plan to stay in Arosa, you must obtain a visitor card, which includes free transportation on all mountain transportation and other leisure activities.

Children can not only feed the cute animals, but also learn interesting facts about squirrels on the famous squirrel trail. Aside from that, there are various information signs about the local Arosa Bear Gang’s history.

Arosa’s forests have everything a squirrel could want: pine cone seeds in the summer and nuts in the winter. If you want to feed the squirrel, use unpeeled nuts to help chafe the sharp rodent front teeth. A necessary part of the squirrels’ daily lives. But be cautious: peanuts and almonds can be harmful to small animals.

Squirrels begin burying seeds and nuts in the autumn to prepare for the winter. They do not hibernate, but they do not enjoy the bitter cold weather, so they remain huddled in their den. When the weather clears, they will go out to retrieve some of the food they hid. This is why the cute animals in Arosa can be observed and fed all year.

They are hidden in the fir cones and must be found. The rodent teeth are used to separate the cones from the branch, and then the scales are gnawed off to get to the seeds. A squirrel can eat up to 15 spruce cones in a single day. Squirrel fur ranges from foxy red to black-brown. Red squirrels predominate in the lowlands, while black squirrels predominate in the mountains.

Because of the variety of activities available, the squirrel trail is an excellent place to spend time with family. It has an idyllic path that leads from the village through the forest to Maran, making many people’s hearts race.

Birds and squirrels are very trusting and will eat directly from your hand. Over a 1.7-kilometer distance, you can observe and study these adorable little animals. Information boards with kid-friendly riddles teach visitors about the forest’s inhabitants. A large playground with a barbecue area awaits visitors near the end of the trail. 2. Squirrel trail, Arosa can be accessed through a train ride

This trail can be reached via the Weisshornbahn, which is located next to the Arosa train station. You can drive all the way to Arosa, but the last 45 minutes from Chur valley to Arosa are extremely curvy and narrow, and will almost certainly make you car sick.

You can avoid this by taking the train back down to Chur. The train ride is lovely and smooth. It only takes about 15 minutes longer than driving from Chur to Arosa. However, the train only runs once every hour, so plan your trip carefully.

Arosa has very reasonable ticket prices, including an all-inclusive family ticket that cost CHF 45 for two adults. Children are admitted for free. If you stay overnight in Arosa at a participating hotel, you will receive a free Arosa card, which includes mountain transportation, public transportation with Arosa, and a variety of other attractions.

There are ten wonderful illustrated panels depicting the history of squirrels along the squirrel path.

The path begins at the Arosa vita parlors and ends at the Maran bus stop. There is a squirrel trail near the bottom that tells a squirrel story on multiple picture boards along the trail. Because there are so many squirrels in the area, you can carry bags of nuts and feed them with your hand.

9. There is public transportation to Squireel Trail, Arosa

The Rhaetian Railway runs hourly from Chur to Arosa and back. The squirrel trail begins only a few hundred meters above the Arosa train station. On the way back, you can either walk down the main street all the way to the train station or take the local bus (bus stop Maran) that will take you comfortably back to the train station.

There are cute little animals who enjoy eating local nuts and seeds. The local red squirrels, with their long ears and bushy tails, are tame enough to feed directly from your hand if you stand still.

Aside from squirrels, the forest is home to a variety of birds, many of which enjoy being fed. Don’t be afraid; not only small sparrows and tits enjoy eating from your hand, but larger nutcrackers will approach and peck nuts from your palm.
