Lake Leisee, located beneath the Sunnega, provides a place for both young and old to rest, unwind, sunbathe, cool off, play, and grill. Beautiful place near Zermatt, Switzerland. A small lake in Sunnega, some fun activities around.

This is a magical place for children to swim and play, and a beautiful experience for parents to unwind. Really nice place with few BBQ’s, wood, tables, a shelter to hide from sun or rain. The Matterhorn views are breath-taking, structured by a pristine alpine landscape.

Regardless of the altitude, the water temperature is appropriate for a dip because the lake is not deep. The lakeshores are home to a variety of alpine flora, as well as tadpoles and small frogs in July. The small stream that flows into the lake is also ideal for children’s play.

Summer vacationing families in Zermatt all agree on one thing: a trip to Leisee is a must. The lovely mountain lake on the Sunnegga sun terrace is a popular hangout for both young and old for a variety of reasons.

Several children enjoy the lake because of Wolli, the cuddly mascot of the Zermatt resort. With luck, they might run into him at Wolli’s Fun Park – one of many wishes granted. With play areas, a cool stream with a water play area, barbecue and picnic areas, a play raft, and a paddling area to cool off in, the adventures at Wolli’s seem endless.

Leisee is also the starting and ending point for many family-friendly walking trails, such as the Marmot Trail, where hikers may spot cuddly-looking marmots. The Flower Trail and the Five Lakes Walk also take you along the lake’s shore. Active families will want to start with a swim in the lake, then grab some kickbikes and race down into the valley on these unique off-road scooters.

3. The five lakes trail

The 5-Seenweg (5-Seenweg) is a relatively easy hike that takes you through five alpine lakes with views of the Matterhorn and the surrounding Swiss Alps.

Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grünsee, Moosjisee, and Leisee are among the five lakes. It is mostly downhill with a couple up-hills and takes about 3 – 4 hours to complete.

The Matterhorn hovers overhead throughout the hike, which adds to its allure. The Matterhorn is reflected in three of the five lakes, and the trail winds from one stunning mountain vista to the next.

4. How to get to the five lakes trail?

The 5 Lake Trail starts in Zermatt at Sunnegga Valley Station, where you deck a cable car up to Sunnegga before connecting to a gondola up to Blauherd Mountain Station. From Sunnegga to Blauherd, the gondola sceneries are spectacular, and you will already have spectacular views of the Matterhorn. So keep your gaze fixed on the window!

This lake is the classic Matterhorn view that you see in all the brochures. It’s worth arriving early to avoid the crowds. During the summer, you can even book an early bird ticket for Stellisee’s sunrise. Because sunrise tickets are limited, this is an epic way to see this gorgeous reflection without the crowds.

5. What are the best times to visit?

Tickets for Sunrise at Stellisee can be reserved until 3 p.m. the day before. We recommend making a reservation in advance because this is a famous adventure in Zermatt. Time varies based on the season (it changes with the time of sunrise), so double-check when the funicular departs.

Cable car departure times range from 04:45 to 06:15 a.m. Our recommendation is to arrive at least 30 minutes early in order to board the cable car first. Go to the front of the cable car to be the first to board the gondola.

6. Best weather for you…

Explore the 6.0-kilometer point-to-point trail near Zermatt, Valais. It is commonly recognized as a difficult path, and it takes an average of 2 hours and 26 minutes to finish. Although this is a famous trekking path, you can still find tranquillity during quieter times of day. This trail is best visited between May and October.

7. Where is the hike trail located?

This fantastic hike is located in the Mattertal, canton of Valais. The route begins in Zermatt and travels through the Üsseri Wälder to Adler Hitta before climbing up to Sunnegga at 2288 meters above sea level. The lovely Leisee is not far from there. After a long hike, this is the ideal place to cool down and relax. The breathtaking panorama of the magnificent Matterhorn is an amazing adventure.

8. How do you get to Lake Leisse?

When you complete the 5-lake hike from Blauherd, this is the last lake. It’s the first from Sunegga. You must take the train from Zermatt to Sunegga and then the gondola to Blaueherd. From there, it’s a 9.8-kilometer hike to Sunegga, where you can tour all five lakes. Lake Lisse is underappreciated, but it is incredible when it swoops over and creates an incredible backdrop against the mountain and mature blue lake.

Sunnegga is nearby. The lake is ideal for photographing mountain reflections. A lovely spot to sit, relax, and gaze out at the high mountains.

10. Lake Leisse’s incredible views

Expect the scenery to be lash green all around in the summer, with snow on the peaks of the mountain. A natural setting for unwinding and spending time with loved ones. You can also do some exploring. During the winter, the small lake is surrounded by snow and serves as a skiing track for children.
