La Maison du Gruyere, located beside Gruyeres’ largest road intersection in Pringy, is the cheese factory closest to Gruyeres’ old town. It is a well-known cheese factory where the secrets of Gruyere are revealed. Inside, as the expert, you can watch the cheese makers at work.

The visit lasts 45 minutes. After touring the factory, you can dine at La Maison du Gruyere’s Restaurant and sample dishes made with Gruyere cheese.
The mystery of Gruyere cheese is revealed in Pringy, directly across from the Gruyeres train station (1.5 km below the town). Three to four times per day, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., cheese is made. A ticket to both the dairy and the Chateau de Gruyeres costs Sfr16 (no child combo)

At La Maison du Gruyere, visitors will have an unforgettable experience while learning how master cheese makers make this famous cheese. Furthermore, one will receive a sensory treat and appreciate all the effort that goes into making the cheese. One is given a headset and audio information in thirteen languages.

2. There is a restaurant on the premises that serves lunch and dinner

Many regional and Swiss dishes are served, and many of them, of course, include Le Gruyere AOP. Fondues, quiches, rosti, risotto, and many other dishes are available. The restaurant seats 250 people, and the terrace serves traditional regional dishes.

The shop sells cheese, fondues, cream, butter, sweets, and other local and Swiss products. Gruyere AOP, fondue, Gruyere cream, butter from the dairy: Vacherin Fribourgeois AOP, local and Swiss cheeses, bakery and regional products, as well as general sundries, sweets, and souvenirs are available in the Marche Gruerien.

The cute little town of Gruyeres can still transport you back in time, despite not being as quaint as you might expect. The cobblestone streets, picturesque flower-decked chalets, ivy-covered buildings, and scenic bastion will transport you back in time.

From Gruyere’s main street, one could see the surrounding mountains. And they enhance the beauty and charm of the old town. Stand near the Calvary Chapel in the city center, and you’ll see the entire main street against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and lush green meadows. It’s a picture-perfect view, especially when it’s not crowded and sunny.

Locals had already turned their milk herds into cheese, which was sold in France and Italy. Over the centuries, knowledge and technique improved. In 2011, the AOP label was granted to the Gunyere cheese. This stands for protected designation of origin and ensures that goods and their origin are protected. Since then, it has been known as Le Gruyere AOP.

6. The chocolate factory, Maison Caillerm, is a 15-minute hike from the cheese factory

The Maisson Cailler makes chocolate with milk from the region, and visitors can take part in a chocolate workshop. Along with its cheese, Gruyere is well known for its chocolate. Visitors can also learn about the region’s chocolate history.
The factory was founded in the twentieth century.

The exhibition allows visitors to interact with the family history. The tour informs tourists about all the ingredients and allows them to sample the chocolate.

7. Gruyere’s Magical Lake is a 15-minute drive away

The Gorges of the Jogne are a nature preserve, about a fifteen-minute drive or an hour’s walk from Gruyeres. Just up the road from the chocolate factory is an easy hike worth exploring. The path follows the river and offers breathtaking views of waterfalls, a green forest, and several rock tunnels. The course takes you to the dam on Lake Montsalvens for a breathtaking view of the lake in bright blue.

8. The cheese produced by the factory has many uses

Gruyere cheese is widely regarded as one of the best cheeses for baking, with a distinct but not overpowering flavor in Quiché. Gruyere adds a savory flavor without overpowering the other ingredients. It is a good melting cheese, especially when combined with Vacherin Fribourgeois and Emmantal.

It’s also traditionally used in French onion soup and Croque monsieur, a traditional French toasted ham and cheese sandwich. Gruyere cheese is also used in chicken and veal cordon bleu dishes. It’s a good table cheese that’s often grated and served with salads and pasta. It is grated and served on top of le tourin, a French garlic soup served on dried bread.

9. La Maison du gruyere a Pringy is close to the HR Giger Museum

It was created by Swiss artist Hans Ruedi Giger, who also created the extraterrestrial creatures in the film Alien. Visitors like to spice up their trip to Switzerland by visiting the HR Giger Bar Museum. It provides a fascinatingly creepy sci-fi experience that completely contrasts with Gruyere’s mediaeval atmosphere.

It is both a bar and a museum, as the name implies. Giger’s work is well-liked by many people. Giger’s imagination is truly astounding in its breadth and depth! However, some exhibits in the museum are slightly disturbing and may not be appropriate for children.

10. The Gruyeres Castle is a 15-minute hike from La Maison du Gruyere

The fact that Gruyeres Castle is located on a hilltop surrounded by mountains and beautiful vistas adds to its appeal. It looks like a movie set, and it can be very dramatic at certain times of day, such as the golden hour at sunset and misty morning sunrise.
