Yann Sommer is a professional footballer from Morges, Switzerland. He was born on the 17th day of December 1988 to his father Daniel Sommer and his mother Monika Sommer.

His early childhood circulated living with his family and interacting with his close friends as he developed his career. Sommer is a goalkeeper who currently plays for Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach and the Switzerland national team.

His parents knew about his interests and ambitions in football but wanted him to get a good education before venturing into a new career. He joined a newly opened youth setup for kindergarten at FC Herrliberg.

In 2005, Yann Sommer joined and signed his first professional contract with Basel. Getting to play more regularly for the team was not a big problem for Yann Sommer.

He was selected as the first-choice goalkeeper for Basel under-21 squad almost immediately after joining the team. He fended off competition from other players like Jayson Leutwiler and Orkan Avci. Sommer also became the third-choice goalkeeper for the senior side after Franco Costanzo and Louis Crayton.

During his debut season, the club managed to secure the UEFA Champions League spot. At the end of the season, Yann Sommer was named Borussia Monchengladbach’s player of the season.
