Gjon’s Tears was born on June 29, 1998, in Broc, Fribourg, Switzerland, to a Kosovo Albanian father from Gjinoc, part of Suhareke municipality in Kosovo. His mother is Albanian from Tirana, Albania.
He acquired his stage name after moving his grandfather to tears while performing Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” Having been brought up in diverse backgrounds, Gjon is open-minded about people’s backgrounds.

He was born Gjon Muharremaj, and he performs under the moniker Gjon’s Tears; his tears are metaphorical. Gjon’s name refers to a formative experience from his childhood.

Gjon’s finished third, impressing both the judges (Altin Basha, Armend Rexhepagiqi and Rovena Dilo) and views with his ability to tackle sophisticated French chansons. This win made him gain popularity.

In 2012, one year after his first Got Talent stint which he made up to the finals, Gjon’s tried out for the Swiss Version. Got Talent is a British talent show TV format conceived and owned by Simon Cowell’s SYCOtv company.
Gjon’s audition with Eurovision 1988 singer Lara Fabian’s “Je T’aime” awakened the audience. Gjon reached the semi-finals of Die grossten Schweizer Talente (Swiss Version of Got Talent).

The contest was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe. However, the broadcaster eventually announced that he would represent the country at Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with a new song.
Gjon’s 2021 entry “Tout I’univers” was released on March 10, 2021; he was first in his semifinals during the contest. In the finals, he won the jury vote but came sixth in the televote.
As a result, he was placed third overall, behind France and the winners Italy. Gjon’s was third with 432 points, the best placing for Switzerland since 1993.
