1 Born in Geneva Switzerland to Immigrant Parents

He was born Clint N’Dumba Capela on May 18, 1994, in the city of Geneva in Switzerland. Capela was born to mixed ethnicity parents. His father was from Angola, and his mother was from Congo. His mother’s name is Philomene Capela.

Very little is known about Clint Capela’s early life because his parents separated when he was just a few months old. Clint and his brothers were raised by his mother, and no information regarding his father is revealed on the internet.

2 He Lived in Foster Homes

Capela lived in poverty during his childhood, at one point he lived in foster care. Because his mother could not afford housing for all his siblings, and she had to do odd jobs to raise her children.

However, it is evident from all his interviews that Clint Capela loves his mother dearly, and they share a close relationship.

This would later inspire me to start a charity to support single parents.

3 Soccer was his Childhood Passion

In his early life Clint Capela wanted to build his career in soccer, his brother convinced him to change to basketball due to his height.

Later on after meeting Swiss basketball icon Thabo Sefolosha, he became fascinated with basketball after he decided to pursue basketball professionally.

He still loves soccer and is an ardent fan of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Before the start of the 2017-2018 season, Clint Capela met the soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on 3 June before the UEFA Champions League final in the United Kingdom. Where Real Madrid won and Ronaldo was named Man of the Match.

Clint Capela started playing in European Junior Championships with the Swiss team from the age of 15.
His talent caught the eye of the national selectors, and they helped Clint to enroll at the National Institute of Sports, Exercise, and Performance (INSEP) in France.
Where he completed his training at the Chalon-sur-Saone training center of INSEP and started his professional career immediately after that.

As he was always into sports, he didn’t finish his studies and devoted himself to playing full-time basketball.

5 Capela Started Playing Basketball Professionally in 2012

He joined Chalon Sue Saone Training Centre, INSEP France, where he completed his studies and received professional basketball training.

On April 12, 2014, he represented the World Team at the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit. Later that month, he declared for the 2014 NBA draft.

In May 2014, he was named the Best Young Player and Most Improved Player of the 2013鈥�14 LNB Pro A season.

6 He Played for Houston Rockets from 2014 to 2020

Capela was selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2014 National Basketball Association draft by the Houston Rockets and signed on25th July the same year.

On March 30, 2015, Capela scored his first NBA points, finishing the game with eight points and nine rebounds in a 99鈥�96 loss to the Toronto Raptors.He recorded his first career double-double with then-career highs of 13 points and 12 rebounds as a starter in a 116鈥�110 win over the Sacramento Kings on November 6, 2015.In an overtime win over the New York Knicks the same month, he recorded an 18-point high over a span of four games.

In 2014鈥�15 he appeared in more playoff games and averaged 3.4 points in 7.5 minutes per postseason game.

During this time he had multiple assignments with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League.

In 2017鈥�18  he significantly improved and was named runner-up for the NBA Most Improved Player Award. This is after averaging career highs of 13.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.85 blocks.

At the start of the year 2019 he had a career best scoring 31 points and a win against Denver Nuggets (125-113).However in the same month he was ruled out for six weeks with a right thumb injury.

In March 2019, he had a career-best streak of twelve games with at least ten rebounds.

He has established the Clint Capela Celebrity (CC15) Foundation to help low-income, single-parent families in the Houston community. Inspired by his own upbringing back in Switzerland.

The foundation provides children in foster care and children of low-income single-parents with opportunities and resources. 

He conducted a successful fundraising when he hosted the foundation鈥檚 first major event titled, a 鈥淐elebrity Slam,鈥� for one hundred and eighty guests at the JW Marriott Houston Downtown on 29th March 2019, and raised $215,000.
