With 5 singles and 13 doubles, gland slam titles on her belt, Martina Hingis is one of the greatest professional tennis players of all time.
Martina Hingis was born in Košice, Czechoslovakia to Melanie Molitorová and Karol Hingis, both of whom were tennis players. She was the first Swiss player to win a major grand slam title and attain a world No 1 ranking in 1997 at Australia open tournament.
She retired from active professional tennis in 2017 after a successful career spanning over 20 years.

1. Her both Parents were Professional Tennis Players

Martina Hingis was born to play tennis. Her father was a professional tennis player who ranked as high as 19th in the Czechoslovak tennis rankings.
Her mother was a professional tennis player who was once ranked tenth among women in Czechoslovakia and was determined to develop Hingis into a top player as early as pregnancy.
2. Martina Started Playing Tennis as a Toddler
Martina’s mother was convinced that her daughter was destined for greatness in professional tennis. Hingis was introduced to tennis at the age of two, using a full-sized wooden racket with the grip cut away so she could get her small hand around it.
She entered her first competitive tournament at the age of four and she became the youngest player to win a Grand Slam junior title at the age of twelve. At the age of fourteen, she retained her French Open junior title, won the girls’ singles title at Wimbledon, and reached the final of the US Open.
Hingis made her WTA debut at the Zurich Open in October 1994, two weeks after turning 14, and ended 1994 ranked world No. 87.
3. Her Parents Divorced when she was still a Kid

Martina Hingis spent her early childhood growing up in the town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, which is in the Czech Republic today. Her parents separated when she was six years old, and she immigrated to Switzerland with her mother in 1987.
Her mother remarried a Swiss man, Andreas Zogg, a computer technician. Hingis acquired Swiss citizenship through naturalization and she speaks German, Czech, English, and French.
4. She is the Youngest Grand Slam Winner of all Time
In 1996, Hingis became the youngest Grand Slam champion of all time, when she teamed with Helena Suková at Wimbledon to win the women’s doubles title at the age of 15 years and 9 months.
She also won her first professional singles title that year at Filderstadt, Germany. She reached the singles quarterfinals of 1996 Australian Open and the singles semi-finals of the 1996 US Open.
5. She was Suspended in 2008 after Failing a Doping Test

In January 2008, the ITF’s tribunal suspended Hingis from the sport for two years. This was after she tested positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, during a urine test.
She appealed the ITF decision arguing that the benzoylecgonine found in her urine sample was likely due to contamination rather than intentional ingestion. Following the loss of her appeal, she announced her retirement from professional tennis.
However, Hingis fully returned to professional tennis two years later. She continues to deny ever taking the drug and proclaims her innocence.
6. She was the Youngest Player ever to be Ranked no.1
Hingis became the World’s No. 1 women’s tennis player at the age of 17 years in 1997. She started by winning the warm-up tournament in Sydney and then became the youngest Grand Slam singles winner in the 20th century by winning the Australian Open at the age of 16 years and 3 months.
She also won the Australian Open women’s doubles with Natasha Zvereva and became the youngest top-ranked player in history. In the same year, she became the youngest singles champion at Wimbledon by beating Jana Novotná in the final.

Hingis re-married On 20 July 2018 to a sports physician Harald Leemann in Switzerland in a secret ceremony at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz.
On 30 September 2018, on her 38th birthday, Hingis announced, via social media, her first pregnancy. She gave birth to a daughter, Lia, on 26 February 2019.

Hingis was an all-court player who was comfortable and proficient on all surfaces. She compensated for her lack of power with superior movement and knowledge of the geometry of the court.
Her serve was not particularly powerful but she was proficient at defending her serve. She was one of the most effective returners on the WTA tour, positioning herself on the baseline to return first serves.
10. Hingis Completed the Doubles Career Grand Slam in 1998
In 1998, Hingis won all four of the Grand Slam women’s doubles titles, only the fourth in women’s tennis history to do so. She also became only the third woman to hold the No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles simultaneously.
