Rosalia, born Rosalia Villa Tobella is a name that needs no introduction. The Spanish singer-songwriter is one of the most famous and talented Spain exports in the music industry. The multiple award-winning songstress have had an astronomical rise to fame after releasing her debut album that garnered international acclaim, dubbed El Mal Querer in 2018.

Since then, things have been moving fast for the multitalented icon. In 2019, she released what is perhaps, her most famous hit single, Con Altura in collaboration with another powerhouse, J Balvin, that catapulted her to the international stage.

With over 22 million followers on Instagram, Rosalia is a famous public figure, with a public life but here are some top ten unkown facts about the star that are not so public even to her most die hard fans!

1. She Speaks Three Languages

Like many non-native English speakers all over the world, Rosalia is tri-lingual which means she speaks three languages. Apart from the obvious Spanish which the majority of her songs are in, she is fluent in English as well as Catalan, a language spoken widely in eastern Spain. Recently she released a song in Catalan dubbed “Millionaire”.

2.Rosalia’s First TV Debut Was on a Reality Show

At just 15 years old, the songstress participated in one of Spain’s talent-scouting programs Tu Si Que Vales singing “Como En Un Mar Eterno” by Hanna. She did not end up winning but that did not slow her down obviously.

It was her first taste of performing to an audience and it established to her that singing was what she ultimately wanted to do. Thanks to the internet you can still watch her audition online just to see how far the talented beauty has come and perhaps gain some inspiration to really go after those dreams.

3.Her Stylist Is Her Sister

Rosalia’s sister, Pilli Vila Tobella acts as her stylist. The sisters are very close with Pillar’s fashion sense often influencing Rosalia’s style. In addition to her sister, she also works in collaboration with another famous stylist known as Samantha Burke who also happens to be Billie Eilish’s stylist.

Rosalia likes to keep it in the family in terms of her career as evident because her mom, Pillar Tobella happens to be her manager, commonly known in today’s terms as a momager.

4.Rosalia is Professionally Trained

Apart from natural raw talent, many successful people in whatever field will tell you it takes more than that to really rise above the pack. It takes years of dedication and training to be good at a particular skill and that is true for the Spaniard singer who trained at the Taller de Musics in Barcelona.

She spent six years there and later on went to further study at the Catalonia College of Music in Catalonia which only accepts one student per year. She got in due to her high grades and stellar recommendations.

5.She Had Her Own Singing Group

In 2012, she started a flamenco group where she was the lead vocalist of the group. The group went by the name Kejaleo. They did release an album that was reportedly good, the group however did not last long as she had many other engagements at the time.

Like many young people in this generation with influence, Rosalia uses her public platform to advocate those beliefs. She is a staunch feminist, pro-choice, and supporter of the LGBTQ community. 7.She Has Debuted in The Film Industry

Like many singers, Rosalia is multi-talented and she dipped her toe into the film industry. This is when she appeared in a scene in the movie Dolor y Gloria which translates to Pain and Glory.

The movie, directed by Pedro Almodovar, also stars other famous names such as Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas. Rosalia has a very small role in the drama and even sang “A Tu Vera” (By Your Side) with Cruz in one of the scenes.

8.Wrote and Recorded Her First Two Albums Without a Record Label

In an interview, the singer mentioned that she is very directly involved in composing her music. She stated that she composes, produces, arranges, and performs her songs. Additionally, she plays keyboards, and bass and does everything in between.

Unlike most stars that end up ultimately delegating some parts of the music-making process, Rosalia insists on being part of that process hands-on although she is signed to a record label. She is in fact signed to two labels, Sony Music Spain (August 2018) and Universal Music Group ( June 2019).

9. She Had a Very Public Relationship with a Rapper

Rosalia dated a very famous rapper that goes by the stage name C.Tangana in 2016. The two wrote music together and he is credited as a writer on eight out of eleven of her songs in her debut album “El Mar Querer”.

They co-wrote her famous 2016 hit single, “Antes de Morime” which translates to “Before I Die” which many fans believe to have been a love letter to each other. The couple however unfortunately broke up in 2018 after two years of dating but still speak fondly of each other whenever one of them is occasionally asked about the other.

10. Rosalia Was The Only Musician Featured on The Times Next Generation Leaders List in 2019

Time recognized her as a Latin pop phenomenon and highlighted how she was a rule-defying renegade and complicated genius. These were credited to her unique fusion style of urban pop, flamenco classical, and Latin music genres that create her unique sound.

In the interview, she talked about how her many influences contribute to her creative process. Many artists from across genres and generations such as Kanye West, Johhny Cash, Bjork, and Destiny’s Child, to name but a few have been critical of her music inspiration.
