  In the Heart of the Jewish Quarter, not far from the Mosque-Cathedral, we find this charming little street, which everyone who visits Cordoba comes to see. The narrow alleyway leads up a gentle slope to open out onto a small square.

Flowers fill the balconies, with their wrought-iron window grilles. Filling the air with a pleasant scent, to the delight of visitors. A fountain graces one side of the square, and there is a fine view of the bell tower of the Mosque-Cathedral.

The Calleja de las Flores, or Alley of the Flowers, is a popular tourist street in Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain. It is situated at an intersection of the street Velázquez Bosco in the heart of the Jewish Quarter, not far from the Mosque-Cathedral.

Let us look at some of the outstanding facts about Calleja de las Flores;

1.  Calleja de las Flores is a flower-lined alley in Cordoba

It’s a narrow street, barely wide enough for two pedestrians to walk side by side. Cordoba’s Calleja de las Flores is a flower-lined alley.

This flower street or alley has become an iconic location and one of the best things to do in Cordoba. This narrow passageway leads to a square with terracotta flower pots filled with geraniums and carnations that are hung in lovely patterns along the walls.

The entire street is lined with flower blue flowerpots and brightly colored flowers, perfectly framing the background of Mezquita Cathedral.

Admire the vines’ cascading tendrils strung across the balconies and the tufts of greenery spilling out from the window grilles.

2.  The square is decorated with a beautiful fountain

The narrow alleyway at the end of the street leads up a gentle slope to open out onto a small plaza, which is actually a neighbor’s courtyard.

The square is adorned with a beautiful fountain that was allegedly built by Rafael Bernier, a former square resident. Take a moment to admire the plaza and the enchanting jumble of leaves and flowers in the background.

One of the most romantic general views of the Mezquita-Catedral can be had from the Calleja de las Flores, with the ornate tower peeking through the gap in the alley and foregrounded by pretty plants.

3. This street is famous for the view of the bell tower

Calleja de las Flores is one of the most famous and romantic streets in Cordoba.

It is a narrow cobbled lane adorned with antique arches and an endless series of beautiful flower pots that add amazing colors.

Which makes it an ideal destination to take the most beautiful souvenir photos. This street is also famous for the view of the bell tower.

The tower appears to be trapped between the white rooftops, as well as an array of souvenir and gift shops.

The Calleja de las Flores embodies the charm and beauty of a traditional Andalusian alley. This little alley, walled with timeless whitewashed houses and adorned with potted plants worthy of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, is a charming place to soak up some of Córdoba’s charisma.

 Turn right into Calleja de las Flores and take a leisurely stroll down the cobblestone alley. The alley runs along a small downtown block and is just wide enough for two pedestrians to walk side by side.

5. Calleja de las Flores is a tourist attraction site

Allow yourself to be swept away in a sea of flowers… Calleja de las Flores is one of Cordoba’s most beautiful streets. Hundreds of flowers adorn the whitewashed walls flanking the narrow alleyway, representing the urban art of life in historic Cordoba.

Calleja de las Flores, located in the immediate vicinity of the famous Mezquita Mosque and Cathedral, is one of the most popular picture motifs in town. The best time to visit is late in the spring when the geranium flowers hanging on the walls are in full bloom.

Calleja de las Flores branches off Velázquez Bosco Street near the Mezquita’s northern corner. It comes to an end on a small square after 30 meters (30 yards). Visitors can get a postcard-perfect view of the Mezquita belltower from here, which appears to rise from Flower Alley.

7. Current state is due to reform by local architect Víctor Escribano Ucelay

The alley and square have been there for a long time, but their current state is the result of a reform carried out by local architect Victor Escribano Ucelay in the middle of the last century when Alfonso Cruz Conde was Mayor.

Escribano Ucelay replaced the previous pavement with typical Córdoba stones made of river stones, and he installed granite plaques next to the walls to simulate small sidewalks.

In addition, he constructed a couple of small rounds and diminished arches to enhance the view, and he whitewashed the walls of the houses to create a stronger contrast with the green of the flower pots.

Because Calleja de las Flores is a narrow alley, the street itself does not receive much harsh light. However, if you want to get the iconic shot, you should shoot from the plaza.

This will allow you to highlight the depth of field of the plaza, flower-lined alley, and Mezquita in the background.

When the lighting isn’t too harsh, the best times to photograph are in the morning and evening. If there is a cloud cover, you can still get a great photograph in the middle of the day.

Every hour, hundreds of people visit this flower-lined alley. To avoid crowds, the best time to photograph the street is early in the morning. The best time to visit is in the spring when the flowers hanging on the walls are in full bloom.
