She was born on November 5th, 1968, in Rome, Italy. However, she grew up in Spain and is fluent in both Italian and Spanish. Her father, 脕ngel S谩nchez-Gij贸n Mart铆nez, was a history lecturer exiled from Francoism.

On the other end, her Italian mother, Fiorella de Angelis, was a lecturer. She was named after Aitana Alberti, Rafael Alberti’s daughter. Rafael Alberti, therefore, dedicated Aitana S谩nchez-Gij贸n some verses upon her birth.

2. Aitana made her debut appearance at 16

S谩nchez-Gij贸n made her television debut as an actress at age 16 in the high school series Segunda ense帽anza, playing Sisi, a lesbian teenager. She made her acting debut in 1986 in the film “Werther.”

Her breakthrough role as Elena in the 1989 film Bajarse al Moro launched her career. She has since appeared in over 70 movies and TV shows in Spain and internationally.

3. She was the president of the Film academy

Her colleagues unanimously elected Aitana S谩nchez-Gij贸n as the new president of the Film Academy. This made her the president of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain between 1998 and 2000.

It made her the first woman to govern the destinies of this institution. The cast that supported her was made up of great supporting actors, such as Fernando Trueba, Manuel G贸mez Pereira, Agust铆n D铆az-Yanes, Ic铆ar Bolla铆n, and many more.

7. She has a degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Although she began studying Hispanic Philology at the Autonomous University of Madrid, she dropped out in the second year to focus on her acting career and study Dramatic Art. Aitana also loves reading and writing in her free time.

She grew up listening to talks from intellectuals and chaining one book after another; she spent her summers on the Abruzzo coastin her mother’s town. After her first heartbreak, she took refuge in reading, mainly Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. The actress confessed that during her childhood she was diligent and took her studies very seriously.
