He scored South Africa’s second goal from a penalty kick in stoppage time of the first game against Paraguay, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Later on, in the subsequent game, South Africa defeated Slovenia 1-0, with Fortune assisting on the decisive goal.

Despite having identical points and goal differential at the end of the group stage, Paraguay finished in second place and moved on to the next round because it had more goals than South Africa.
