Oti Mabuse (Otlile “Oti” Mabuse) is a South African talent show judge, presenter, dancer and Latin dance champion currently based in the United Kingdom.

She is best known for being a professional dancer on the British television series Strictly Come Dancing, which she won in 2019 and 2020, and its German equivalent, Let’s Dance.

She was a Dance Captain on The Greatest Dancer. Since 2021, she has been a panellist on The Masked Dancer and became a judge on Dancing on Ice in 2022.

1. Mabuse comes from a rich family 

Oti Mabuse comes from a rich family, her father Peter Mabuse is a well-established businessman in her country, and her mother Dudu Mabuse is an ordinary household woman.

The talented actress and dancer have an elder sibling whose named Motsi Mabuse, who is a South African-German dancer globally known for her appearance on Let’s Dance, the German version of Strictly Come Dancing.

2. Mabuse studied engineering before she embarked on her career

Mabuse was born in Pretoria and studied civil engineering at university before embarking on a career in professional ballroom dancing. She has managed to become one of the best ballroom dancers. 

Her elder sister, Motsi Mabuse, is also a professional ballroom dancer. Oti has participated in the German series Let’s Dance both as a professional dancer and as a judge, and as a professional dancer in Britain’s Strictly Come Dancing.

3. Mabuse has won several dance competitions

Mabuse won the South African Latin American Championship eight times, after which she moved to Germany to broaden her dancing horizons. She is recognized as one of the best dancers in the world. 

She has also earned several titles in her dancing career; including third place in World Cup Freestyle Latin in 2014, second place in European Championship Latin in 2014 and first place in German Championship PD Freestyle Latin.

4. She joined the strictly family in 2015 and has since partnered with several celebrities

Mabuse joined the Strictly family in 2015, where she was partnered with boxer Anthony Ogogo, but the couple made an early exit in Week Two. Her second round went a whole lot better, seeing her go all the way to the final with Hollyoaks hunk Danny Mac in 2016.

In 2017 she partnered with the show’s first-ever Paralympic competitor Jonnie Peacock, finishing in a respectable eighth place. Oti then put cricketer Graeme Swann to work in 2018 and the couple made it to Week 10.

But 2019 was Oti’s year, despite losing her original partner Jamie Laing before Week One even began due to an injury. Soap star Kelvin Fletcher stepped into partner Oti and the dazzling duo ended up taking the Glitterball home!

Just when she thought she couldn’t top that, Oti lifted her second Glitterball trophy in 2020 with comedian Bill Bailey. With back-to-back wins in her locker, she’s taking to the dance floor with ex-Rugby player Ugo Monye in 2021… but can she make it a hat-trick?

5. Mabuse started dancing as a young child alongside her elder sister

Born in Pretoria in South Africa, Oti began dancing as a young child alongside her sister Motsi, who is also a professional dancer and now a Judge. She’s also taken a seat on the judging panels of BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer and ITV’s The Masked Dancer.

Despite studying Civil Engineering at University, dancing was always Oti’s true passion. As a result, she moved to Germany to broaden her dancing horizons. Across her career, she’s won plenty of titles, including third place in World Cup Freestyle Latin in 2014, second place in European Championship Latin in 2014 and first place in German Championship PD Freestyle Latin.

6. Mabuse has featured in several TV dancing programmes

Mabuse has featured in several TV dancing programmes including; The Greatest Dancer which began in 2019 and ended in 2020, Romeo and Duet which premiered in 2022, and Strictly Come Dancing which was aired in 2004.

She has also featured in other TV dance programmes like the Masked Dancer in 2021, Dancing On Ice in 2006, Boogie Beebies in 2020, and Celebrity Google Box in 2019.

7. Mabuse is currently based in London, United Kingdom

Mabuse currently resides with fellow dancer and husband Marius Impure in their beautiful city pad in London, United Kingdom. She currently lives in England after initially moving from her home country south Africa and residing shortly in Germany. 

Oti Mabuse recently gave herself a hair makeover to mark turning 31, and she looks stunning. The Strictly Come Dancing star ditched her long locks in favour of a much shorter style, which she dyed red. The hairstyle made an instant impression as her fans loved it from the word go.

8. Mabuse has been married to dancer Marius Lepure since 2014

Oti Mabuse has been married to fellow professional dancer and Romanian-born star since 2014 Marius Iepure. The two are both currently involved in teaching at the Oti Mabuse Dance Studio together, with the website proclaiming their desire to inspire dancers of all ages to “pursue their passion for dancing” under the professional guidance of experts.

Oti and Marius first met at a dance trial in Germany where Oti’s older sister Motsi Mabuse currently lives with her husband and daughter. Oti and Marius won the German National Show Dance Championships together and also came in second place in the World Latin Championships.

After romance blossomed between the dancing couple, Marius is said to have proposed to Oti on his birthday in 2014. Seemingly not able to contain their excitement and wanting to start their married life together as soon as possible, their wedding was held the same year. The couple doesn’t have a child of their own yet. 

9. She has also recently become a writer 

With so many fans looking up to her, it’s perhaps no surprise that Oti Mabuse has branched out in her career in recent years. As well as flexing her dancing muscles, she also showcased her creative writing skills with her debut children’s book, The Bird Jive, in May last year.

The beautifully illustrated book aims to teach young readers a simple 10-step dance routine and celebrates expression, dance and movement. She aims to write more books in the future to teach her fans different dance steps. 

10. Mabuse’s net worth is around $10 million

Mabuse who is a prominent social media influencer and dancer’s net worth and earnings can be assumed to be about 10 million USD. The major sources of her income can be calculated from dancing, acting, and being an exceptional video content creator.

Oti’s income as a choreographer for Strictly Come Dancing is estimated to be over $200k per annum. She is one of the richest dancers in the world and also one of best dancers and one of the highest earning dancers in the globe.
