2. His wife died of cancer
Gary Player and Vivienne Player were childhood sweethearts. Gary first asked Vivienne to marry him at 15 years old. The couple eventually married on Jan. 19, 1957. They lived as husband and wife for 64 years.
The couple has six children, 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren together. Vivienne passed away in 2021 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
3. He has co-authored numerous books
He has also authored or co-written 36 books on golf instruction, design, philosophy, motivation and fitness. Gary recently took to Twitter, to announce the news that he is writing a new book now, along with the author, Randy O. Williams.

GPC Foundation was started in 2016 to help young athletes worldwide to achieve their goals of playing golf at the college level. Many talented young athletes are unable to afford coaching, equipment, and tournaments that will help them reach their potential.
On average, a family can spend upwards of $800 per week on training. The Foundation strives to make a significant impact on the lives of junior golf athletes by providing resources for academic and athletic training.

Gary Player of South Africa defeated Kel Nagle of Australia in an 18-hole playoff to win his only U.S. Open title. Player was the first foreign-born winner of the U.S. Open since 1927, and the win completed his career Grand Slam at age 29. It was the fourth of his nine major titles.
6. He was awarded the medal of freedom
In 2021, President Donald Trump awarded on Thursday the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Annika Sorenstam and Gary Player. Sorenstam and Player both played golf with President Trump in 2019, with Sorenstam and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) defeating Trump and Player.
