Dale Steyn was born Dale Willem Steyn on 27 June 1983. His father is Willem Steyn and his mother is not known yet. His parents are from Zimbabwe. Steyn was born in the small town of Phalaborwa, Mopani District Municipality, Limpopo province, on the border of Kruger National Park in South Africa.
So, Dale is a South African professional cricketer. He played for the South African Cricket Team and is often regarded as one of the best fast bowlers of all time. He is also the best Test bowler of his Generational. In the article are the top ten astonishing facts about Dale Steyn.
1. He was one of the best Wisden Cricketers of 2013
Besides Jacques Kallis, also a South African cricketer, Dale was named in the 2013s Wisden Cricketers of the year. Wisden Cricketers of the Year are cricketers selected for the honor by the annual publication Wisden Cricketer’s Almanack. Dale was also named in Wisden Leading Cricketer in World.
2. He dominated number one in ICC Test rankings
At the peak of his career Dale dominated the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings. He had a record of 263 weeks between 2008 and 2014. The following opponent was Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan who took position two in the ranking.
Muttiah is now a Sri Lankan Cricket coach and had 214 weeks which was a difference of 49 weeks. That must be a massive blow in the face! In terms of days, Dale had spent 2, 356 days at the top as of 6 October 2016.
3. Dale made his first-class debut for Northerns
Northerns is a Cricket team in South Africa. It has been played first-cricket in South Africa since December 1937. Dale made his first-class debut for the team on 17 October 2003. He only played two first-class games.
However, Dale only made a little impact in his first season, but a series of strong performances at the start of the 2004/ 05 season.
4. Dale made his first South Africa Debut in 2004
It was on 17 December 2004 in the Test of England’s tour when Dale made his first debut for South Africa. His victim in Test cricket was Marcus Trescothick. He bowled Marcus with a fast in-swinging delivery which he failed to defend.
However, Dale’s overall performance was not that pleasing. He took eight wickets at an average of 52.00. He was dropped after a poor performance in bowling in England’s second innings of the fourth Test in January 2005. He bowled 8 no-balls in nine overs which went for 47 runs. England won the match by 77 runs.
5. Dale made his OneDay International Debut in 2005
Later that year when Dale made his debut for South Africa, he was chosen for the squad for the African XI in the Afro Asia Cup of 2005/06. Dale made his first ODI debut on 17 August 2005. The African XI won the match with Steyn bowling last batsman Ashish Nehra to seal victory by two runs.
6. He was the second-fastest South African bowler
It was during the New Zealand tour to South Africa when Dale was declared the second-fastest bowler in South Africa. He was second in terms of time taken after Shaun Pollock, a former South African cricketer, and cricket commentator.
Dale Steyn bowled Dough Bracewell, an international New Zealand cricketer out in the first session of the Test. He took his 300 Test wickets in 61 matches. He reached the landmark in 8 years and 16 days to become the second-fastest bowler in S. Africa.
7. Dale was an aggressive out-and-out fast bowler
He is capable of bowling at speeds over 150 km/h. He set a record in his speed at 156.7 km/h for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2010 Premier League. He is capable of generating considerable swing and is usually chosen to bowl with the new ball to maximize these attributes.

8. Dale has suffered many injuries throughout his career

He has missed many games because of injuries. His longest injury took 14 months after which he played his first International Test Match against India.
He managed to pick up a wicket in just 14 balls. On day two of the Test match against India, Dal was ruled out of the rest series after damaging his left heel. The heel needed 4 to 6 weeks to recover. Injuries almost damaged Dal’s career.
9. He starred in the movie Blended
Apart from his career as a Cricketer, Dale made his debut in the movie industry in the 2014 movie Blended. Blended is a 2014 American romantic comedy film. It was directed by Frank Coraci and distributed by Warner Bros. It was written by Ivan Menchell and Clare Sera.
The comedy stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore as two single parents who went on a blind date together and never wanted to see each again afterward. Dale styne plays the role of Adam Sandler.
10. Dale Steyn retired in 2019
On 31 August 2021, Dale announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. His injuries must have pushed him to retire because he missed the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He however was named in South Africa’s squad for the cup. He was replaced by Beuran Hendricks.
Dale retired to focus on limited-overs cricket. In December 2021 Deale Steyn was appointed coach of Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was to be a fast bowling coach for the team amid the 2022 IPL season.
Dale is a world-reputed cricket player and the best fast bowler of all time in his era. Despite that he suffered many injuries that at most times affected his overall performance, he most times helped his team secure wins. He deserved the 2013 and 2014 Wisden Cricketers of the Year for he is among the best Cricketers in the world.
