While honing her dancing ability, she was able to secure a spot to perform at the Stargazers Convention in Sydney. She appeared in the music video for Will Young’s popular single Leave Right Now and has performed in various shows while on tour in America.

She hired a swimming trainer before going to the auditions, and after the auditions, she was cast in one of the lead roles as Nikki Chadwick.

The show followed the lives of three mermaids as they dealt with everyday problems, with almost always a twist at the end.

Cariba Heine, who has returned to Sydney after a sojourn in the United States, has to laugh about being fresh out of hotel quarantine and straight into lock-down.
She admits to Now To Love via Zoom that her time away from home has made her embrace her Australianisms even more.

Her Australian accent is as strong as ever, something she has worked hard to keep even as her acting career has taken her abroad.

“When I moved away from Australia, I scrambled to maintain my Australian identity,” she says.

“I feel like I’ve become more Australian ever since!”

While many Australian actors lose their accents for international roles, Cariba’s is prominent in the new Paramount+ show Everyone Is Doing Great. She and Alexandra Park maintained their Australian accents for their roles as two Australian actresses working in the United States (art really does imitate life).

It’s unusual to hear Australian accents in a US series, but Cariba claims that’s not the only Aussie element in the show.

10. What she has to say for her acting career

Luckily, Cariba has had a fairly successful career since her debut as Rikki Chadwick on H2O: Just Add Water in Australia. The iconic mermaid kids’ show has followed Cariba throughout her career, especially now that she’s sporting curly blonde hair like she did when she played Rikki.

While some celebrities avoid discussing their early projects, Cariba has nothing but praise for H2O and the influence Rikki had on so many Australian children.

“It’s so meaningful to be a part of a series where a character really helped people through their childhood and adolescence,” she says, smiling.

“But it also puts a lot of pressure on you to maintain that kind of image!”

She is now more drawn to villains and other characters with serious flaws that viewers must overlook in order to truly love them.  You’ll have to watch the show to find out which category her character on ”Everyone Is Doing Great” falls into.
