Born on 28th June 1979, Jeannette Aw, well known by her stage name Ou Xuan, is a Singaporean actress, author, filmmaker, and businesswoman. She has established herself over the years as one of the most sought-after high-profile celebrities in Singapore.

She broke into the limelight when she emerged as the winner among 5000 applicants. This was in a talent search, Route to Glamour, in 2000 orchestrated in Singapore and Malaysia by SPH MediaWorks. Jeanette joined Hype records and became a permanent MediaCorp artiste from 2002 to 2017.

Between this time frame in 2006, Jeanette was labeled one of the Seven Princess of MediaCorp. Subsequently, she accomplished great success after her debut in the leading role in the commendable drama The Little Nyonya. Jeanette Aw continues to film on an impromptu basis.

1.Jeanette Aw Has Her Own Production Company

She is a multi-talented mogul. Aw is the founder of the production company Picturesque Films. Jeanette Aw ventured into directing and directed and produced The Last Entry which was inspired by her godmother’s Alzheimer’s illness in 2017.

The film did quite well with it being selected for the official competition of Tokyo’s Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2018. She went ahead and filmed a short film Senses in 2018 in Japan. The great love to create just naturally gravitates to her and everyone is here for it.

Aw’s production company has shot commercial projects as well including beauty and social media campaigns.

2. She Had No Intention To Be An Actress

Jeanette considered herself fortunate enough to be part of a close-knit family where her parents provided what she and her siblings needed. She was introverted and carefree. Jeanette had aspired to be an artist, dancer, or child psychologist.

She had gymnastics in primary school and dance in secondary school with her going into ballet when she was 13. Aw went into dance on a daily before she signed her first acting contract. Jeanette was the president of the NUS (National University of Singapore) Dance Ensemble when she attended university.

Aw later pursued a Bachelor of Arts and a career on stage despite her considering being a child psychologist due to her love for children.

3. Jeanette Aw Has Nabbed 29 Star Awards

During her 15-year career period with MediaCorp, she has managed to get 29 popularity and performance Star awards. Subsequently, she has been nominated 8 times for best actress in the star awards.

4.She Has Two Published Books

Aw is a jack of all trades and to everyone’s surprise a master at what she does, She has two published books; Jeanette Aw: Definitions in 2012 and Sol’s World: Somebody to Love in 2015.

The book Definitions involved aspects of her personal life, her breast cancer scare, and playing the mother to her three godchildren. The book Sol’s World: Somebody is a fictional story about a girl named Sol on a self-discovery journey. Jeanette admits that she is working on her third book.

5. Jeanette Is Human

As bizarre as it may sound, Jean faces the same struggles as any other human. We often idolize celebrities to the point that we assume they would not face the same scuffles as any other ordinary human.

Aw struggles with stubborn fat that is not easy to eliminate through working out or dieting. Instead, she uses the non-invasive fat-freezing treatment and CoolSculpting which destroys fats maintaining a willowy figure. She also had a breast cancer scare that inspired her to write and publish her book.

6. Aw Is An Artist

Having done art back in school without any additional expertise she pursued her passion for art. Aw expresses her love for painting and creating a world made up of dramatic light and shadows.

She also partnered with UOB and completed two canvas pieces as part of giving week with children from SPD. This session is done live on Jeanette’s Facebook page where each view is converted to a dollar.

She uses her whimsical, reflective, and thoughtful work not only as a sight worth seeing but also as a way of giving back to the community. Aw went on to hold a solo art exhibition in Takasaki, Japan alongside her book launch that had yet to be done in Singapore.

7. Jeanette Aw Is An Ambassador

She was appointed to be the ambassador of a city in Japan called Takasaki. Takasaki is situated in the Gunma province of the Kanto region of Japan.
Although it is not quite clear how Aw attained the appointment, it is highly likely due to the Ramen Teh shoot in 2018 by Erico Khoo. Takasaki later became the shoot location for her production company’s short film Senses.

8. She Is A Baker

Jeanette Aw always loved baking. In 2018 she moved to Bangkok and joined the Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School to attain a diploma in Patisserie. She was then appointed the Brand Ambassador of the school.
She has plans to set up a pop-up café before venturing into opening her very own physical one.

9. Jeanette Is A Humanitarian

She collaborated with Precious Moments and ostensibly obtain a five-figure sum that she donated to charity for children with cancer in 2012. Aw visits children’s homes and makes volunteer trips to underprivileged children.
Subsequently, in 2016 she became the brand ambassador for Bulgari and aided to raise funds for a Save the Children program in Vietnam.

10. She Manages Her Social Media Accounts
Unlike other sought-after celebrities that have individuals managing their social accounts, Jeanette manages her social media accounts. She put together her love for fashion with writing and began her fashion website with her last byline dated in 2018.  Jeanette is among the first Mediacorp artist, during the time she was signed to them, to gain 1 million likes on Facebook 

Jeannette is multi-talented as she holds skills that encompass different facets of life including playing instruments. She went on to go solo. Even though she acts in horror films, she does not watch them. This is because while she films it is all a prop but watching it after the film premiers brings a whole other angle to it and she gets scared.
