Gurmit Singh, who was born on the 24^th of March 1965, is known as a Singapore actor, comedian and television personality. Gurmit is married to Melissa, a Cantonese Chinese. They have three children, Gabrielle (born 1998), Elliot (born 2002) and Mikaela (born 2013).

Gurmit is an alumnus of National Police Cadet Corps, Singapore, and held the rank of Cadet Inspector.He had a major breakthrough in his acting career through his sitcom series Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd.

He gained major popularity out of its success. He even won five different Awards out of its success. He was thereafter offered the position to become a host of the Singapore Idol. He has even won commendable prices between the years 2004 to 2005.

Gurmit has been featured in several sitcoms in the industry. He first appeared in 1994 in the show Live on. This was evidently the beginning for his successful career in comedy. He later appeared in the sitcom Gurmit’s World and later the second season of the sitcom.

Later in 1997 the Singlish-based spin-off sitcom Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd made Gurmit a popular icon not only in Singapore but also in neighboring countries like Malaysia. The success of the sitcom led him to be the host of Singapore Idol. 2.Gurmit`s nomination for Best Actor Price

Back in 2013, Gurmit was nominated for the Best Actor Price at the first Golden Wau Awards. The program was aimed at promoting Chinese-Language Malaysian Films for his role in the Phua Chu Kang  which was released in 2010. In tribute for the movie, Madame Tussauds Singapore museum unveiled a wax figure of Gurmit the In 2013.

Gurmit announced in 2014 that after 20 years in the industry he had hoped to leave the industry and spend more time with his family. He also shared that he would take engagement on selective basis. This decision was made in his effort to spend more time with his family as the industry was taking much of his time. This was a crucial move for him to increase his family ties.

Gurmit has won several awards in his comedy career from the year 1998 to 2003. He won the comedy Best Actor in 1998 to 2001 and 2003. He held the position for five years. This brought him so much fame in the comedy industry and was mostly regarded as the comedy king.

He was known as a famous comedian but that was not all to his acting he showcased a totally different personality in the 2003 Baby Boom show. It is evident that he was a holistic actor who could take up different role and not only comedy. This greatly increased his success and popularity in the acting industry.

Gurmit was not only known as a comedian but also and actor, a host, singer and he was also in the showbiz industry. He hosted the first-ever football reality show which was aimed at searching for amateur football talent around the world.  

He then handed them over to Steve McMahon who was Liverpool legend. This was one of his ways of giving back to the society. He nurtures several football athletes through this project.

 Gurmit was in no way shy in using his connections to give back to the society. He hosted several football reality shows which were mostly aimed at nurturing amateur football talent to playing professionally. He had his connections and was not afraid to use them to benefit others.

8.Wax Figure was made in honor or Gurmit

Back in October 2014, he got his very own wax figure, for himself as Phua Chu Kang. It remains in Madame Tassunds Singapore museum. The wax figure was made after the release of Phua Chu Kang  in 2010. In tribute for the movie, Madame Tussauds Singapore museum unveiled a wax figure of Gurmit the In 2013. The figure still stands.

After Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd in 1996, Gurmit was made to host the great Singapore Idol.  After the tremendous success in his Singlish-based spin-off sitcom Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd  .He became popular in Singapore and neighboring countries.

This success landed him a job in hosting the Singapore Idol. He can attribute this to the success in the industry.  He really benefited from the success of the sitcom he released.  The success of the sitcom also brought him several wins in the comedy actors` awards.
