Rebecca Lim is a Singaporean actress born on 26 September 1986. She is best known for her roles in several English and Chinese TV dramas produced by MediaCorp. The dramas include Code of Law; Final, Bridge Season 2, The Land is Mine, Yes We Can, The Truth and The Lead amongst others.

 In 2010, Rebecca earned her first Best Actress Award at the 15th Asian Television Awards for her role as a trainee lawyer, Wendy Lim, in the Channel 5 television series The Pupil.

In 2020, Lim was awarded Malaysia’s Best Actress National Winner for her performance in The Bridge.

1. Rebecca Lim Has a Double Degree From SMU

Having attended prestigious schools, Rebecca is admittedly a beauty with brains. She studied at CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls’ School in both elementary and junior high school, where she was more of a science student.

Rebecca had hoped to study medicine in the UK further, but her dream had to be put aside because her father had fallen ill at the time. 

While in school, Rebecca’s involvement with the arts was limited to moving props during school plays. She later proceeded to Victoria Junior College and eventually to Singapore Management University.

At SMU, Rebecca pursued and graduated with a double degree in Accountancy and Law. It was at SMU that she developed an interest in acting and started taking up part-time roles.

2. She auditioned for Miss Universe Singapore 2005

At 18 years old, Rebecca contested at the Miss Universe Singapore 2005 beauty pageant.

She stood out from the rest during the auditions when she brought along a one-piece swimsuit and IC photo instead of a bikini and model portfolio. However, this did not deter her from shining.

She ended up winning fourth runner-up and the “Miss Photogenic” title. Shortly after, her talent was discovered by MediaCorp and they signed her as a full-time actress.

3. She Struggled with Mastering Mandarin

Rebecca made her show business debut in 2008 when she landed her first leading role in a TV drama series, The Truth, alongside Tay Ping Hui and Joanne Peh.

After that, however, she got criticized for her poor command of the Chinese language. As a result, Rebecca admits that she had to work really hard in Mandarin lessons to improve and become eloquent.

4. Rebecca won the Best Actress Award Twice at the Star Awards

Throughout her career, Rebecca has since gone on to win prestigious awards. In 2014, Rebecca was nominated for the Best Actress and the Best Supporting Actress awards in Star Awards for her roles in Sudden and The Dream Makers, respectively.

She won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as the free-spirited airtime sales manager, Lisa Xiao, in The Dream Makers. Later in 2015, her comedic performance as Zhang Xueqin in Yes, We Can! earned Lim her first Best Actress Award at MediaCorp’s annual Star Awards.

She also won the Star Awards again in 2018 for playing Lin Mei Zhen in The Lead.

5. She was the first and only Singaporean to receive an Asian Star Award at the 2016 Seoul International Drama Awards

Following her performance as a bar hostess in the Channel 8 period drama The Journey: Our Homeland, Rebecca Lim won Best Performance in a Leading Role at the 2016 Seoul International Drama Awards in South Korea.

She was the first and only Asian representing her country at the awards, alongside veteran Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong and popular Taiwanese actor Jasper Liu.

6. Rebecca Lim auditioned for Crazy Rich Asians

Rebecca auditioned three times for the role of Astrid Leong-Teo, Pierre Png’s unhappy socialite wife in the Hollywood blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians.

Unfortunately, she lost the role of British actress Gemma Chan due to trouble with her American accent.

7. She has worked in advertising 

Besides her lucrative acting career, Rebecca has also worked in advertising, where she has endorsed numerous brands, from skincare to jewellery and cars.

Over the years, she has also been the cover girl for various fashion magazines and has been invited to Âé¶¹APP Fashion Week 2019 for Christian Dior and Hermes shows. 

8. She has a sourdough bread business with her brother

Along with her elder brother Daniel, Rebecca started a sourdough bread business in June 2021 through their Instagram account @thelimskitchen.

Previously, Rebecca has always been an avid home cook, sometimes sharing her culinary talent on her social media handles.

Their sourdough bakery journey in July 2019 after receiving a starter named Larry (their father’s name) from a chef friend.

Since then, they have refined their craft, and customers now have to make online bookings in advance as the bread sells out very fast. Approximately 750g pre-baked, their sourdough serves 12 to 16 half slices and comes with 50g of truffle butter. 

9. She is Passionate About Charity Work

Devoted to philanthropic work, the actress is also a generous and humble giver. For the past few years, Rebecca and her fan club members organize and deliver care packages to less fortunate members of society.

She hit the headlines when she and her assistant personally packed and delivered 400 care packs to the elderly and less privileged staying in one-room flats and frontline heroes in essential services such as taxi drivers, construction workers, and cleaners.

As a Goodwill Ambassador of the Singapore Cancer Society, she helps raise awareness of the fight against cancer.

10. She is engaged to a mixed-race Singaporean 

On 12 November 2021, Rebecca got engaged to Matthew Webster, an assistant vice president who works with PSA International. She took to her Instagram account on 15 November to announce the engagement.

Rebecca and her fiancé were essentially matchmade by her personal make-up artist during a get-together at a mutual friend’s. The two got along since. Matthew is born to a British father and a Chinese mother.

Although the two mainly speak English with each other, Rebecca shares that he struggles with Mandarin when communicating with her grandmother. 

Their wedding is set to be later this year. In a local interview, Rebecca revealed that she prefers a simple wedding, followed by a buffet spread.
