Lu Rui En is a Singaporean-born multitalented famous actress and singer well known by her stage name Rui En. She was born on January 29th, 1981, and is an Aquarius.
She was born to a family made up of her father, a property agent, and mother, a housewife, who later divorced when Rui was seventeen.
She studied both her primary and secondary education at Singapore Chinese Girl’s School, and in due course at Raffles Junior College (RJC).
Rui En subsequently graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a Bachelor of Business majoring in Banking and Finance in 2004.
Rui En was stumbled upon when she appeared in a well-known SingTelhi! Card commercial in 2001. This propelled her into the limelight soon after.
1.Broken Home Led Her To Smoke And Drink
After her parents divorced when she was 17, they subsequently remarried to other people when she was in her 20s. This took a toll on her. She shared in The Straits Times interview back in 2008, that while growing up she used to drink and smoke.
This was not only majorly to get through the instability and insecurity she felt from her home environment but also after she withdrew from ballet as a co-curricular activity in her secondary education.Rui En eventually ended the habit in 2004

She was managed by Phantom management when she began her modelling career after she had completed her A levels from RJC just before she joined University.
She was a ballerina from her primary education (primary 5) till her secondary education (secondary 1) when she felt that she did not exactly fit in anymore. This was all before she joined Mediacorp.
3.She Was Named One Of The 7 Princess Of Mediacorp
Rui En was named one of the 7 Princess of Mediacorp after being recognized as one of the most auspicious young actresses, by local entertainment magazine I-Weekly, in Singapore Entertainment Industry.
This was after she made her acting debut in Mediacorp drama in 2002, No Problem. Rui En landed her first lead role with Promise of Tomorrow in 2005. Mediacorp’s Buzz named her amongst the 10 faces to watch in 2010.
4.Rui En made her debut as a singer in Taiwan
She launched her music career in 2002 in Taiwan. Rui collaborated with Jay Chou and made her first debut as a female lead in Jay Chou’s music video for Secret Code and further went on to co-endorse Panasonic GD68 with him.
Under the co-production of Hype production and Alpha Music Rui En subsequently released her first regional Chinese album, Rui Σn vol. 01 in the same year. She was nominated as the Best Local Singer in the Singapore Hits Awards 2003.
Rui released her second album, United Nations which was only released in Singapore after a 6 years break in late 2008 under Hype Records. In 2009 she was invited to perform in the Prime Minister’s Office on Singapore Day at London’s Hampton Court Palace.
5.She consecutively won 10 “Top 10 Most Popular Female artist”
The trophies that En won are fruits of her labour in the characters she portrayed and her outstanding performances. Some of them are the role she played as Zhang Luoyun in My School Daze and as Lin Jiaqi in The Dream Catchers.
These emerged as “Top 10 Favorite Female Characters” in the Star Awards in 2010 and “Top 5 Favorite Female Characters” respectively.
Other than these awards Rui En has won awards ranging from Best Actress, when she portrayed the widow in With You, to Favorite Female character and more. Rui won 20 Star Awards between 2004 and 2005, capping it off in 2016 by winning the All-Time Favourite Artiste Award.
6.First Singaporean Spokesperson for L’Oréal
Rui En was appointed in 2013 as the spokesperson for L’Oréal 鶹APP Youth Code. Making her the first Singaporean spokesperson for the international cosmetics brand. She was presented with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award by the University she schooled at, Nanyang Technical University.
7.Rui En is Assertive and does not mince her words
After analyzing her performance in the sitcom Achar! She felt that her multifaceted talents were just for popularity and fame to fill in the void and instability that her family situation created. Consequently, she decided to stop taking up roles that involved kissing and any intimate scenes.
This limited the roles she could take on. The rejection she made was on a high-profile role in The Defining Moment that involved a raping scene.
She was accused of being unprofessional by some producers who went on to blacklist her. Rui En remained assertive in her decision.
She started to gain back recognition when she played the role of a social service worker and AIDS patient in By My Side in 2008.
8.She is a Reel-life Arborist
In preparation for her role as an NParks Arborist in the drama The In-Laws, Rui En watched a documentary that featured the NParks Arborists to get a feel of the character she played.
Even though they had the option of staging the scene by making use of a ladder Rui was adventurous and willing to climb a tree.
She went ahead to go as far as incorporating some of her eco-friendly habits such as carrying the same recycled tote bag throughout the episodes
9. She has been involved in several Accidents
Rui En has been in several incidents. She has since sent out apologies for each of them. These include flouting traffic rules, a hit-and-run incident with no casualties in January 2016. The parties involved in this agreed on a private settlement. In April 2016 Rui En knocked over a stationary motorcycle in a car park near her home.
10.Rui En Loves for Animals
She adopted a little kitten rescued from a glue trap when she visited SPCA in 2015. Rui En volunteers at Beyond Social Services despite her busy schedule. RBKD, her fan club, volunteered charitable services to the needy as a birthday gift to Rui En.
Rui is the theme song singer for the Community Chest of Singapore. She maintains her low profile in her volunteering as she has no intention to use this to benefit her career.
