Teo Chee Hean began recognition began when he became on the beneficiaries of the Presidential scholarship and the Singapore Armed forces.  His military career by him holding a post in the Singapore Navy and later rose through the ranks to become a two-star rear-admiral. He also served as the Chief of Navy between the year 1991 and 1992.

He later retired to join the political arena during by-elections in Singapore. He was luckily elected to the parliamentary seat through the People’s Action Party (PAP) team. This was just the beginning of his political career as he has also been appointed into several seats in government.

Teo was elected into the parliamentary seat as he won the 1992 by-election as a member of the People’s Action Party (PAP) team. His political career had begun earlier as he was previously the Prime Minister between the years 2009 to 2011. He previously held the post of cabinet portfolios of Education  between the year 1997 to 2003, Defence between 2003 to 2011 and Home Affairs between 2011 to 2015.

Within his political party he also held the post of First Assistant Secretary-General until later where he was replaced by Heng Swee Keat in November 2018. In the 2006 general elections Teo led the PAP team to contest in Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC again and won with 68.7% of the vote against the Singapore Democratic Alliance. He retained his parliamentary seat after the elections.

Teo Chee was privileged enough be a beneficiary of the Presidential scholarship in the year1973 and the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas scholarship as he was result he attended the St. Joseph`s Institution. He joined the University of Manchester where he graduated with a first class honors in electronic engineering and management in science.

He later proceeded to do his Masters of Science in computing science at the Imperial Collage London in the year 1977. He later took up a Masters course in Public Administration at the Harvard University.

In the year 1973 Teo was enlisted at the Singapore Armed Forces and later commissioned as a naval officer at the SAFTI military institution.  He held various posts in his military career. He held both command and appointments in the Republic of Singapore Navy.

He inevitably rose through the ranks and became the Chief of Navy with two-star rear-admiral in 1991. He`s military career ended when he retired in 1992 to take up his political career in the by-election.
