Pierre Png Tiang Huat is a Singaporean actor. He was born on 29 October 1973.
He is known for starring in numerous Singaporean dramas, including ‘The Gentlemen and When Duty Calls.
One of his very first roles early on in his career was the comedic Phua Chu Beng in the award-winning sitcom, Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd.
Besides his talent on screen, Pierre’s good looks saw him listed on CLEO magazine’s Most Eligible Bachelors and Female magazine’s Most Gorgeous Hunk in 1999.
Pierre has won numerous awards for his career achievements in entertainment, including the coveted Star Awards and the region’s most prestigious industry award; the Asian Television Awards.

1. He started acting while in high school
Pierre attended his elementary studies at St. Gabriel’s Primary School and later on joined Holy Innocent High School. There, he participated in several high school film projects. He would later enroll in an acting course to sharpen his acting skills.
2. Pierre Png got his acting first role in a 1998 film
After the National Service, a national policy in Singapore requiring all male citizens to serve a period of compulsory service in the military, Pierre took up his first role in a film.
The film, Forever Fever, was a musical comedy film directed by Glen Goei. It centers around a supermarket employee who enters a dance contest to raise money for a new motorbike.
Pierre played the role of Richard. The film did well and was picked for international distribution by Harvey Weinstein of Miramax. It was released in the USA as ‘That’s the Way I Like It. It was the first Singaporean film to perform well internationally.
3. He made his TV debut on a Channel 5 sitcom
Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd was a comedy sitcom aired on MediaCorp TV Channel 5. It centered around Phua Chu Kang, an eccentric contractor portrayed by Gurmit Singh. Pierre played the comedic role of Phua’s brother.
He went on to feature in Chinese language dramas on Channel 8. He was nominated for the Most Popular Newcomer Award at the 2001 Star Awards.
4. Pierre has starred in numerous films
After Forever Fever, Pierre starred in the 2000 movie Chicken Rice War. He played the role of Fenson Wong, a modern-day Romeo.
The movie represented Singapore at the Los Angeles Film Festival. He played a Thai doctor in The Eye, a horror film.
He would later take up a lead role in Nothing to Lose, as a compulsive gambler. His stellar performances have won him awards.

Pierre has played a range of characters and played them well indeed.
His comedic skill was well executed in his role of Phua Chu Beng in the sitcom Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd. He plays the brother of the main character.
Pierre portrayed a sad and troubled husband in the 2008 drama ‘The Little Nyonya’. The role won him a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2009 Asian Television Awards.
In 2013, he played the role of the villain supervisor Heilong in the trilogy The Journey: A Voyage. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2014 Asian Television Awards.
6. Pierre earned the lead role in a 2014 Blockbuster drama
The blockbuster drama, Zero Calling was a Channel 5 production. Pierre managed to snatch the lead role and he executed it quite well.
The role earned him the 2014 Asian Television Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
7. He made his Hollywood feature film debut in 2018

Pierre played the role of Michael Teo in the 2018 Hollywood Crazy Rich Asians. This marked his debut in Hollywood.
The film is adapted from Kevin Kwan’s best-selling novel, with the same title. Pierre starred alongside Henry Golding, Constance Wu, and Michelle Yeoh. Awkwafina makes an appearance as well and as usual, is as hilarious as can be.
The film portrays the ‘crazy rich’ lives of Singapore’s wealthiest families. Michael Teo’s character is a handsome man married to a woman from one of the elite families.
Pierre cites that there’s a bit of similarity between him and Michael since he also married from a wealthy family.
8. He is currently a brand ambassador for Singlife with Aviva
Singlife with Aviva is a leading financial services company in Singapore. It announced Pierre’s appointment as its brand ambassador in 2022.
This was after the merger of Singlife with Aviva at the beginning of the year. Pierre is well known in the region’s entertainment scene.
He made his ambassadorial debut in Singlife’s sustainability program launch in June 2022, where he planted trees at Bisahn-Ang Mo Kio Park.
Pierre expressed his belief and support in the company’s commitment to helping Singaporeans attain financial freedom after his appointment.
9. Pierre donated half of his liver to his wife
The actor is married to former host Andrea De Cruz. Their relationship was made public in 2002 when Andrea suffered liver failure after consuming slim pills.
Pierre donated part of his liver to save her, a gesture that warmed many people’s hearts. When asked why he decided to be her organ donor, he expressed in an Instagram post that he couldn’t see his life without her.
10. He is a recipient of many awards
Pierre won the 20th Star Awards in 2014 for Best Actor in The Journey: A Voyage. That same year, he won Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in Zero Calling at the Asian Television Awards.
He has featured in the Star Awards’ Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes from 2017 to 2022.
He has been nominated numerous times for the Star Awards. In 2006, he was nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Shining Star.
