Like any other European country, the desserts found in Ukraine are more friendly to the European and Russian locals since majority of the population have originated from these two diversities.
Just like the citizens are a mixture of different communities, desserts have no exception, they cut across all races that make up Ukrainian population.
This makes it easy for anyone visiting Ukraine to choose from the variety of Dessert which are found in almost every hotel.
Ukrainian Desserts are refreshing and one that someone may never regret taking for a meal.
1. Cottage Cheese Donut
It is an extremely easy-to-cook and delicious dish to tea. As opposed to dough donut, cottage cheese one boasts more tender and soft flavor. The cottage cheese donuts can be either stuffed or not.
The mixture is as follows: Grind the cottage cheese with egg, stir through the flour. Add the sugar and knead dough with a spoon until fully combined. The dough should be elastic and viscous.
2. Cherry Solozhenik
The solozhenick is a traditional Ukrainian dessert made of eggs and cream. There are different variants of solozhenick with varied stuffing from jam to poppy-seed.
The cherry solozhenik boasts slightly sour taste so the sweet-teeth can add more sugar. However, it is best taken according to it’s original ingredients.
3. Apple Solozhenik
The solozhenick is a traditional Ukrainian dessert made of eggs and cream. There are different variants of solozhenick with varied stuffing from jam to poppy-seed.
It hardly could be called a pastry because it is cooked over heat.
The apple solozhenick boasts both tender flavor and pleasant fragrance.
4. Cottage Cheese Studen with Apricot Juice
As a rule, the Ukrainian dessert Studen is based on dairy products and it is always very original and mouth-watering.
Soak the gelatin in two tablespoons of cold water. After it is swelled, cover it with boiling water and completely dissolve it; and then strain.
Drain the cottage cheese, rub it through the fine sieve and combine with powdered sugar, vanilla and apricot juice. Also the apricot jam could be used instead.
5. Semolina Pudding with Cherries Poltava

The successful combination of semolina and cherries is responsible for flawless flavor that won’t leave any semolina’s fan indifferent.
6. Pennik with Apricots
The Ukrainian apricot pie or Pennik is vitamin-rich and easy-to-cook dessert. It is among those Desserts that the locals love making particularly over the weekends. In addition, it has a balance diet mixture that makes everyone picking it as a choice never regret having it as a dessert.

7. Cottage Cheese Babka with Raisins
It is a tender and delicious dessert based on cottage cheese. Because of its simplicity in preparing and cooking it, many working class love it as it takes a very short time to prepare and cook it.

8. Classic Honey Cake

The Classic Honey Cake or Medovik is an authentic Ukrainian cake, considered to be one of the most popular desserts in Slavic countries. According to the classic recipes, the honey cake is made with several layers making it unique dessert.
It takes a little to bake, but the whole process might take some patience.
9. Locally Baked Pumpkin with Millet and Dried Fruits

The pumpkin dishes are very common in traditional Ukrainian cuisine. In general, the pumpkin came from America, however the Ukrainians had caught the fancy of it therefore as of today it is one of the protagonists of Ukrainian fare.
The national dishes of pumpkin are multifaceted. It can be used to make thin pancakes, pies, cookies, porridge and paste.
Moreover, the pumpkin might be cooked in its own juice with raisins, dried pears and prunes.
The simplicity of making the pumpkin paste allows almost every individual citizen have a knowledge on how to prepare it for a simple meal. It can be prepared in the rural areas of Ukraine as it can be made over fire, in oven with milk, honey, and other ingredients.
10. Vareniki with Cherries

If you’ve read ‘Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka’ by Russian classical writer Nikolai Gogol, you surely remember how adroitly one of the characters ate vareniki with sour cream that flew into his mouth by themselves.
Of course, traditional Ukrainian vareniki don’t have such super skills, but their taste is sure to make you think of the Ukrainian cuisine’s magic.
Ukrainian vareniki are often compared to Russian pelmeni or Italian ravioli. Vareniki’s crucial difference from other similar dishes is their dough.
Traditional Ukrainian vareniki can’t be Lenten, that is, kefir and eggs are always added to the dough.
What are vareniki like? Nikolai Gogol wrote that you could eat hat-sized vareniki at some farms. That’s, of course, an exaggeration.
The classical varenik is around 10 cm large and, contrary to pelmeni or ravioli, has a crescent shape.
Vareniki’s filling can be very different: potato, cabbage, potato and meat, potato and salo (pork meat), sweet or salted curd, pumpkin, cherries and so on.
The filling is warped up in dough and cooked for five minutes or less. Vareniki are usually served with sour cream.
Although it’s truly Ukrainian dish, vareniki are well-known globally from south to the north and from north to the East and West.
Globally, vereniki is loved because of its’s tasty mouth watering flavor. Most importantly, it is usaually a dessert not only in Ukraine but also very common in Canada and Russia.
What is really surprising is that the nationals from Russia are in the same region with Ukraine and so this is not a new dessert to them, rather their usual choice.
It is always fun to visit Ukraine for a favorable, assorted cakes, and appetizing desserts of one’s choice in particular during a summer season.
