On 28 February 2022, on the pretext of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and by a “recommendation” by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), FIFA and UEFA suspended the participation of Russia in their competitions.
However, this does not give a viable reason that Russia has no good players. Players like the retired Andrew Arshavin were of Russian origin. In the article are the top ten Russian Footballers of All Time.
1. Artem Dzyuba
Artem Sergeyevich Dzyuba was born on 22 August 1988. He is a Russian professional football player who plays as a striker for the Turkish Süper Lig team Adana Demirspor and the Russian national football team.
He began his career with Spartak Moscow, debuting in 2006 and making 166 appearances and scoring 38 goals. He also had two loans each at Tom Tomsk and Rostov, winning the 2013–14 Russian Cup with the latter.
Dzyuba made his senior international debut for Russia in 2011. He represented the nation at UEFA Euro 2016, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and UEFA Euro 2020 and is the country’s joint-top scorer with 30 goals alongside Aleksandr Kerzhakov.
2. Igor Akinfeev
Igor Vladimirovich Akinfeev was born on 8 April 1986. He is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for and captains the Russian club CSKA Moscow.
He has spent his entire career at CSKA, making more than 700 official appearances. He has won six Russian Premier League titles and six Russian Cups, as well as the UEFA Cup in 2005. He is a record holder for most games played in the Russian top-level league at 524
As a full international for Russia between 2004 and 2018, he earned 111 caps and was selected in their squads for four UEFA European Championships and two FIFA World Cups. He was named captain of Russia in March 2017, after the retirement of his predecessor Vasili Berezutski.
3. Aleksandr Golovin
Aleksandr Sergeyevich Golovin was born on 30 May 1996. He is a Russian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Ligue 1 club Monaco and the Russia national team. He can also play as a central midfielder or a winger.
Golovin won the 2013 UEFA European Under-17 Championship with Russia’s national under-17 team, with which he also participated in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Later, Golovin went on to represent the Russia national under-19 team at the 2015 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, where Russia came in second place.
Golovin made his debut for the Russia national team on 7 June 2015 in a friendly game against Belarus at the Arena Khimki, replacing captain Roman Shirokov in the 61st minute and scoring Russia’s second goal of a 4–2 victory 16 minutes later.
4. Aleksei Miranchuk
Aleksei Andreyevich Miranchuk was born on 17 October 1995. He is a Russian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or striker for Serie A club Torino, on loan from Atalanta and the Russian national team.
Miranchuk made his debut for the Russia national football team on 7 June 2015 in a friendly against Belarus at the Arena Khimki, replacing Yuri Zhirkov in the 71st minute and scoring Russia’s third of a 4–2 victory twelve minutes later.
5. Ari
Ariclenes da Silva was born on 11 December 1985. He is commonly known as Ari and he is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Atletico Cearense. Born in Brazil, he represented the Russian national team.
He started his professional career in 2005 with his hometown club Fortaleza and signed for Swedish club Kalmar one year later. After two and a half seasons in AZ Alkmaar, he played in the Russian Premier League for Spartak Moscow, Krasnodar, and Lokomotiv Moscow.
6. Ilzat Akhmetov
Ilzat Toglokovich was born on 31 December 1997. He is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for FC Krasnodar. Earlier in his career, he mostly played in the attacking midfielder position.
He was able to represent either Kyrgyzstan or Russia. Manager of Kyrgyzstan Aleksandr Krestinin, a Russian himself, tried to call him up, but he ultimately chose the latter.
He was called up to the Russian team for the first time in November 2018 for games against Germany and Sweden.[9] He was forced to miss the call-up due to injury. He made his debut for the team on 21 March 2019 in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Belgium, as a starter.
7. Arsen Adamov
Arsen Ruslanovich Adamov was born on 20 October 1999. He is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a left-back or right-back for FC Zenit Saint Petersburg. He is of Chechen descent.
He was first included in the senior team of FC Akhmat Grozny in July 2017 for a game against FC Dynamo Moscow and remained on the bench in that game. He was called up to the Russia national football team for the first time for World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Slovenia in October 2021.
8. Gamid Agalarov
Gamid Ruslanovich Agalarov was born on16 July 2000. He is a Russian football player of Dargin descent who plays as a center-forward for Akhmat Grozny. He made his debut in the Russian Professional Football League for Anzhi-2 Makhachkala on 11 May 2018 in a game against FC Krasnodar-2.
He made his debut in the Russian Premier League for Anzhi Makhachkala on 28 July 2018 in a game against FC Ural Yekaterinburg. He was called up to the Russia national football team for the first time for October 2021 World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Slovenia.
9. Denis Cheryshev
Denis Dmitriyevich Cheryshev was born on 26 December 1990. He is a Russian professional footballer who plays as a left winger for the Italian club Venezia and the Russian national team.
As a youth product of Real Madrid, he made his debut for the reserves in 2009 and with the first team in 2012. He then had loan spells at Sevilla, Villarreal, and Valencia before joining Villarreal permanently in 2016, and returned to Valencia on loan two years later. In June 2019, he signed permanently for the latter.
Having earned 45 caps and scored 23 goals in its youth categories, Cheryshev made his debut for Russia in 2012. He was a participant in the 2018 World Cup, scoring four goals as the team reached the quarter-finals, and Euro 2020.
10. Fyodor Kudryashov
Fyodor Vasilievich Kudryashov was born on 5 April 1987. He is a Russian professional footballer who plays for the Turkish club Antalyaspor and the Russian national team as a left-back. He can also play as a center-back.
He was called up to the senior Russia squad in August 2016 for matches against Turkey and Ghana. He made his debut against Turkey on 31 August 2016.
