Anna Kournikova is a former Russian professional tennis player and an American television personality.

Her celebrity status and her appearance made her one of the best-known tennis stars worldwide.

At the peak of her fame, fans who were looking for her images made her name one of the most common search strings on Google search. 

More so she never won any singles title but she reached number 8 in the world in the year 2000.

However, Kournikova achieved greater success playing doubles where she was at times the number 1 player.

Anna Kournikova was born in Moscow, Russia on 7 June in the year 1981. Her father a former Greco-Roman wrestling champion was born in the year 1961.

He attained a Ph.D. and he was a professor at the University of physical culture and sport in Moscow. in the year 2001, he was a part-time martial arts instructor there.

Kournikova’s mother was a 400-meter runner and she was born in the year 1963.

Her younger half-brother Allan is a youth golf world champion who was featured in the 2013 documentary film the short game.

At the age of five received her first tennis racquet as a new year gift in the year 1986.

Kournikova describes her manner of living she said “I played two times a week from the age of six. It was a children’s program.

And it was just for fun, my parents didn’t know I was going to play professionally, they just wanted me to do something because I had lots of energy.

It was only when I started playing well at seven that I went to a professional academy.

I would go to school and then my parents would take me to a club and I would spend the rest of the day they’re just having fun with kids”.

At the age of eight Kournikova began appearing in junior tournaments in the year 1989 and the following year she was attracting attention from tennis scouts across the world.

She signed a management deal at the age of ten and went to Bradenton, Florida to train at Nick Bollettieri’s celebrated tennis academy.

3. Anna Kournikova’s Early years and Breakthrough in Her Tennis Career

Following her arrival in the United States Kournikova became prominent in the tennis scene.

She won the European championships and the Italian open junior tournament at the age of 14.

She became the youngest player to win the 18 and division of the Junior Orange Bowl tennis tournament in December in the year 1995.

Kournikova was crowned by the international tennis federation junior champion under 18.

When she was 14 years old she debuted in the women’s tennis association tour where she received a wildcard into the qualifications at the women’s tennis association tournament in Moscow.

She lost in the second round to the eleventh seed Irina Spirlea at the US Open. When she partnered with Likhovtseva she reached the third round of the women’s doubles event.

Kournikova played her last women’s tennis association tour event of 1997 at the Porsche tennis grand pix in Filderstadt where she lost to Amanda Coetzer in the second round of singles she broke into the top 50 on May 19 and she was ranked number 32 in the singles and number 41 in the doubles at the end of the season.

4. Anna Kournikova Exhibitions and World Team Tennis From The Year 2004 to Present

Since the year 2003, she did not play in the women’s tennis association but she still played exhibition matches for charitable causes.

Late in the year 2004, she participated in three events organized by Elton John and fellow tennis players Serena Williams and Andy Roddick.

She played in a doubles charity event for the Indian Ocean tsunami with John McEnroe, Andy Roddick, and Chris Evert in January 2005.

Kournikova teamed up with Martina Hingis to play against Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur in the world team tennis finals for charity in November 2005.

She was also a member of the St Louis Aces in the world team tennis-playing doubles only.

She showed up for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon held at Zuma Beach in Malibu California where the race raised funds for the children’s Hospital Los Angeles in September 2008.

Anna Kournikova played one exhibition match for the annual charity event hosted by Billie Jean King and Elton John which raised more than $400,000 for the Elton John Aids Foundation and Atlanta Aids partnership fund.

Anna Kournikova plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. She can hit forceful groundstrokes and also drop shots.

She was in a relationship with fellow Russian Pavel Bure a national hockey league ice hockey player.

The two met in the year 1999 when Kournikova was still linked to Bure’s former Russian teammate Sergei Fedorov.

In the year 2000 Bure and Kournikova were reported to have been engaged after a reporter took a photo of them together in a Florida restaurant where Bure supposedly asked Kournikova to marry him.

The story made headlines in engagement Russia and they were both followed heavily by the media as celebrities they both denied any.

In late 2001 she started dating singer Enrique Iglesias after she appeared in his music video escape.

Kournikova consistently refused to directly confirm or deny the status of her personal relationships.

Allegedly the couple has a son and daughter Nicholas and Lucy who are fraternal twins who were born on December 16, 2017.

In the year 2010, it was reported that Kournikova had become an American citizen.

Kournikova became the new face for Berlei’s shock absorber sports bras and she also appeared in the “only the ball should bounce” billboard campaign.

She was cast by the Farrelly brothers for a minor role in the 2000 film Me, Myself & Irene starring Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger.

Her photographs have appeared on covers of various publications including men’s magazines such as the 2004 sports illustrated swimsuit issue.

A drink called white Russian made with skim milk is known as Anna Kournikova.

In the year 1998 in November Namco developed and released for the PlayStation in Japan and Europe a video game featuring Kournikova’s licensed appearance titled Anna Kournikova’s smash court tennis.

She was awarded Women’s tennis association Newcomer of the year in the year 1996.

She also was awarded Women’s tennis association doubles team of the year together with Martina Hingis in the year 1999.
