One thing Romans do better than hospitality, is pampering.

Some travelers tend to let their personal grooming take a backseat while on the road, which is understandable as it does become an added expense in unfamiliar territory. But there are some cities in Europe where one simply must experience the local salons and Rome is one of them.

Here are the top ten that I know of thus far!

1. Mimi Beaut̩ РNails & Hair in Rome

If you’re partial to the idea of a quick salon visit between a guided walking tour or lunch reservation, then you’ll probably want to look into Mimi Beauté.

It’s situated in the west of Trevi, so it’s incredibly central and easy to fit in. They specialize in nails and hair, but do offer alternative treatments for skin and relaxation upon request.

The technicians are all highly skilled, especially one of the hairdressers who is a wonder to watch work. Eyelash extensions are also available on site!

2. Baldestein in Rome

Baldestein is in the north of Trevi, and before I go any further I will warn you that prices here are incredibly high.

This salon very much requires you catch it on a good day. They are fully booked most days, and some run smoothly while others are very delayed. Unfortunately this is not something one can predict in advance.

On a good day you’ll be treated to the hair or nails of your dreams.

I’ve always loved the small business simplicity of The Beauty Bar. It’s the most wholesome and home-like experience one can find when it comes to beauty parlors in Rome; if you value individual attention then you’ll love being here.

Prices are reasonable, the staff are so kind, and service is high end, always.

For a salon that has it all we head into the Trastevere. This neighborhood thrives on entertainment and nightlife, and people like to look their best.

This is your one-stop salon for hair, nails, makeup, skin, massage, waxing and everything in-between.

Walk ins are generally welcome, but on weekends and busy afternoon you might find yourself wishing you’d made an appointment.

Also in the Trastevere, just on the northern end, is the fabulous Malò Centro Estetico. This aesthetics center sends your whole body into zen just by walking in.

The entire parlor is themed ancient Roman, and all rooms are mood lit and made to feel completely separated from the bustling city streets just outside. Whether you’re here for a massage, a pedicure or just an eyebrow thread you’ll probably feel more relaxed than you have in weeks.

Take a guided walking tour through Monteverde and you’ll notice how everyone appears to be perfectly groomed at all times. People in these parts value their personal morale, and good beauty parlors thrive.

Seta Beauty is the one place in Rome that I trust wholeheartedly with my face. From waxing to peels they are incredibly well informed and always very safe with their procedures.

This spot is great value for money, too!

7. Musart in Rome

Musart is a little known hair, nails and makeup salon in Trastevere that was recommended to me by a friend when in search of a salon that could strip black hair dye from my head.

To this day I have no idea how they managed what they did, but the staff at Musart are miracle workers when it comes to hair and coloring. To top things off they play great music throughout the day and you leave feeling energized as opposed to lazy.

8. Beauty Smart in Rome

Beauty Smart is right in the city center by the Termini station. I came here based on another friend’s recommendation when I was in need of somewhere for a really good but affordable massage.

I enjoyed the soothing ambiance of the parlor so much that I wasn’t ready to leave after my massage and stayed for a manicure as well. If that isn’t the best way to summarize the satisfying experience of Beauty Smart I don’t know what is.

9. Angel Beauty in Rome

If you’re looking for a more low-key or exclusive beauty parlor experience while in Rome then Angel is the place. It’s run by two women named Angelina and Natalie, who you will deal with directly when making a booking.

Absolutely no walk in service is offered at Angel; the run solely off of private bookings. They are also known for virtually painless waxing!

10. Aquarium Fish Wellness in Rome

In the spirit of keeping things inclusive, not far from Angel’s salon is something slightly different.

The Aquarium Fish Wellness parlor is where you’ll enjoy all your usual beauty treatments as well as the infamous fish tank pedicures. Some people love it, some absolutely hate it. If this is your thing, then this is where you want to go in Rome!
