The “Eternal City” is a magical place that steals the heart of all who visit it. The seven Roman hills are places that must be seen far and wide by everyone. During time its fountains and streets have become part of many films. Parks and buildings will always remain imprinted on film. But it doesn’t end there! Many musicians and songwriters dedicated songs to this beautiful city. This beautiful song is part of the album “Love Letters from Elvis” and was released in August 1971. Within the album there are songs not used for “That’s the Way It Is” and “Elvis Country (I’m 10,000 Years Old)” albums . The song will bring you to the “heart of Rome” and make you feel nostalgic and romantic. And if you listen carefully to the King, you will find yourself throwing coins in all the Roman fountains. At the end you will fall in love with the city and its story.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day” is a single by Morcheeba. Released on August 5, 2000, for the Warner Bros. The single is a novelty for the group and totally deviates from the dark tones they were used to. The title of the song refers to the fact that to build something great and wonderful it takes time! Here in Rome, we use this proverb to say that something needs time and patience to be completed, or that in any case, with commitment and diligence, great works are accomplished.

Spanish steps – Toto

This Toto song was released in 1999 with the Mindfields album. It will take you for a walk through the alleys and Roman catacombs. Not forgetting to throw a few coins into a famous fountain and take a stroll to see St. Peter’s and the Colosseum. Obviously, at the end of the song, you will find yourself admiring the Spanish stairs of Rome from the top. I suggest visiting it at night!

Arrivederci Roma – Nat King Cole

This Italian song was released in 1955 as the soundtrack of the homonymous film. “Arrivederci” literally means “until we see each other again”. The song expresses the melancholy of a man for the evenings in the city and the foreign tourists he met during the trip. Within the song, the area of the Roman castles and the sweet wine, the green pines that characterize the city, are mentioned. There are many versions of this song but my favourite is Nat King Cole’s.

Autumn in Rome – Tony Bennett

Autumn in Rome is taken from Tony Bennett’s album “This is all I ask”. The singer recalls a love story, fountains and gardens full of pine trees during the Roman autumn. There are many versions of this song. Including Dorothy Ashby’s from 1958 and Johnny Mathis from 1955. Actually, autumn is one of the best times to visit Rome. The climate is pleasant and there are usually not many tourists. You will visit the city in peace if you follow the advice of this song!

This song is also dedicated to the beautiful Trevi Fountain. This fountain is known all over the world also thanks to the film “la dolce vita”. With this song Achille Togliani express his romantic side and declares his passion for the Eternal City. Once in front of the Trevi Fountain, remember to take lots of photos. But above all to make a wish by throwing a few coins with your back to the fountain. I recommend that you visit it in the evening, there will be fewer tourists and the photos will be even more romantic. But don’t bathe in it!

But also, from the quartet The Four Aces, Dinah Shore, Sergio Franchi, Harry James and many others.

This song dates back to 1965. Lou Monte is an Italian American of Calabrian origin and born in Manhattan. His lyrics were written and sung in a mix of American, Calabrian and Italian dialect. And they kept company with many Italian emigrants in America. Roman Guitar (aka Roman Guitar) tells us about a guitar and the Roman night sky.
