10 Things To Do in Pigneto, Rome
Truth be told there isn’t much to do in Pigneto other than meander and let the nature of this neighborhood come to you organically.
This is Rome’s old working class dwelling; an area where it was affordable to live but the people feared to roam late at night. As inexpensive neighborhoods do, Pigneto developed, over time, into an arts district instead.
It is now a neighborhood for theatre, cheap drinking, great music and free throughout (as the locals say).
1. Eat Authentic Ethiopian Food at Mesob Restaurant in Pigneto, Rome
There aren’t many spots in Rome where one can find authentic Ethiopian food, so this restaurants in Pigneto is an absolutely treat to anyone who is a fan of this cuisine.
It’s Pigento’s best kept secret, but the secret is spreading fast and reservations are now recommended if you want to dine here for dinner.
Their injera break and wat dishes are the most traditional I’ve found in the Italian capital.

By day, YEAH is Pigneto’s freelance hub where anyone can come to do a few hours of work in a laid back, indie environment. By night, YEAH transforms into an equally as laid back and indie street bar, where customers are encouraged to select the music of the evening from the collection of vinyl in the corner.
It’s a great atmosphere, drinks are cheap, and no one will bother you unless you bother them.

All neighborhoods in Rome have their main street strip that forms the central hub of their little communities. The via del Pigneto is a road filled with cafes, restaurants, thrift stores, boutiques and creative concept shops trying to make it big.

This is Pigneto’s arthouse cinema, showing only very independent, very hard to find films that you’ve likely never heard of or will hear of again.

This one is for the children in Pigneto. As I said, Pigneto is very centered around performance arts, and the Central Preneste Theatre in the north or the suburb has dedicated their space to the entertainment of children.
They deal with pantomimes, puppet shows, circus acts and workshops for children to get involved in as extra murals. Get connected to their social media to find out what you can expect during your visit.

The adults need a theatre treat every now and then as well. Not far from the children’s theatre is the Teatro Hamlet.
It’s one of the smaller theaters in Pigento, but that’s why I like it. There is always something really low budget and outstanding to watch here. Again, the best way to keep up with what’s on would be to connect to their social media.
